Going to have a week in Edinburgh with 3 kids. We are planning the zoo and deep sea world. Any other things we can do ? And good shops about? It really won't take much to impress me. Not bothered about the castle.

The 4 year old can name almost all the different types of whales and sharks he will not be able to get enough. A huge thank you to the tips. Just been told there's a cat cafe nearby too dd will loose her shit.

I definitely agree about the shittyness of Deep sea world. Absolute waste of money & time

Poor old Deep Sea World. We go every few years when we've forgotten how sad it is then we vow to never go ever again.

Cat cafe and a Chihuahua Cafe. But your younger kids won't be allowed in

If you have a car Almond Valley Heratige centre is good for the children, it’s a mini farm with large play area, it’s in Livingston. Also Jupiter Artland is nice for a half day out, it’s near Ratho. There is also the international climbing arena, with a good soft play but you’d need a car. In town Princes Street gardens have a play area and is a nice way to spend a few hours with a picnic. Dalkeith Country Park also has a large play area called Fort Douglas but you need to book and pay. Saughton Park is really nice and has gardens to walk through and a play park and skate park.

My dc love deep sea world Blush but you could indeed finish quickly if you don't go to all the "touch the spider", "watch the seals being fed" type things. The moving walkway is worth going round more than once!
If you go to Princes street the gardens there are nice, and there's a decent playground in the part that's under the castle. A bus to Portobello is a good idea. Try to bring a picnic to the zoo and you will be broke before you leave otherwise. Giraffes!
You book now for things you might not expect, like the Botanics (though still free), you could go online and book a swimming session at the commonwealth pool if the dc like swimming. Hope you get a dry week.
