Anyone had a front of shin tattoo?

How bad is it? Worse than spine/knee pit?

I'm contemplating front of shins but I absolutely died having the back of calves done, it was awful.

Is it worse?

I imagine shin would be pretty bad as all bone! I have one on my ribs, which was pretty sore.....

Honestly not bad in my experience, similar to the backs of your arm if you've had that done? Nothing in comparison to chest/head/feet anyway - if you've already got tattoos I'm sure you'll be fine :)

I have both of my shins tattooed, several smaller pieces on one leg and a large ankle-to-knee one on the other.

It hurt but it’s definitely not the worst I’ve sat through. I personally find it much more painful on fleshy areas!

Interesting, I'd like a shin piece next, but don't have any "bone" tattoos. I've had my back/spine and top of neck done but I've heard shin is way worse vibrations wise.

So some people think fatty areas are worse than bony areas?

I've had thighs/calves/back/forearms done, but always thought I would hack the shins.

Can anyone say what shin tattoos feel like? Is the outline terrible?

I love a post-pandemic tattoo thread btw, I'm super excited to get back on it.

Aw is it? How awful?

Well I had a small one in the middle of one calf so thought I'd be ok. It was just a bit sharp.

Then I had a bigger one on the other calf including the knee pit and inner calf and it was hell on earth. Worse than spine.

DS says no, the feet hurt much more. Shins were fine apparently.

I know this post has been closed for a while, but just in case anyone stumbles upon it looking for advice! - The actual tattoo on your shin isn't that bad, though definitely worth asking at the studio about numbing cream if you're skinny. It's a bizarre feeling because it's so bony but not too sore. What IS a killer though is the recovery! If it's a detailed tattoo (like a picture rather than words), or you've had colour/shading so they've had to go over the area a few times, it can be really sore to walk on for a few days after. It feels like bad sunburn, when you stretch or move the sore skin and it's a really sharp pain. Once you've been moving for a couple minutes, it settles down, but those first few steps after sitting for a while are a killer!
