Pain in back / side any advice?

Hi I woke up Friday morning about 4am with a pain all down my left side and left side of my back. Whether I laid or sat the pain wouldn't go. I ended up going downstairs and sat on the kitchen floor. Then laid on the sofa then went into dd bed (she was in my bed).

Yesterday it hurt. I had nurofen?? 3 times a day. Once the tablets wore off though the pain came back.

It's sometimes hard to catch my breath. If I cough sneeze yawn etc it hurts.

If I've just slept funny would it hurt this long?

The severity comes and goes but sometimes it feels like a contraction coming (I'm not pregnant and the pain isn't in that area)

I can't really go to a and e because I don't want to be dramatic. Cause drama with my family. I don't drive. I have 2 children.

Should I call the doctors Monday morning? They now get a doctor to call in 2/3 days so I'm looking at Tuesday / Wednesday.

A hot water bottle worked for a while.

I'm
Autistic so I don't always act how most would.

Thanks

Keep an eye out for a rash - I felt exactly like this. Dull ache like I was bruised in my back with sudden stabbing pains a bit like contractions sometimes when I breathed or moved but sometimes out of nowhere.

I thought I'd pulled something / slept funny / trapped a nerve. Then 3 days later a little rash started on my stomach. By the end of the day it looked like little blisters - turned out to be shingles!

That is all the symptoms I have. I've not had shingles before.

I feel sorry for myself as not one family member has asked how I am. I can't ask them for a lift.

Will a taxi take me to the hospital? They might assume it's corona?

Is it common to refuse an ambulance?

I honestly know it's not that urgent. They sent one when I had chest pains I felt stupid sat in the back being able to talk. They might put me to the bottom of the que now.

If it is shingles - and it probably isn't, but I'd never had it before either and had no idea about the pain that it comes with, so thought I'd mention it - then I don't think they can do anything until the rash appears. Then it's a course of antivirals if they think you need it, I think young, healthy people are just advised to let it take its course.

Have you had chickenpox? You can only get shingles if you've had chickenpox.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 04/07/2021 10:54

You usually only get shingles once, though for aome unlucky people its recurring when they get rundown - it never completely leaves your body, but most people only get ill once. As the poster called Shingles (!) says you can only get it if you've previously had chicken pox.

Refusing an ambulance doesn't sound sensible.

Have you got someone on standby to sit with your children? If not please sort that out now, as it will remove the obstacle to seeking proper advice/ care.

Hi. Paramedic phoned. He said it's a strange one as their is the side pain plus throat and headache etc

I mentioned the ambulance and he said they aren't medically trained so when chest pain is mentioned they send one. I didn't mention any chest pain. So glad said I didn't want it.

Paramedic is getting a doctor to phone as he said he might be able to prescribe stronger pain relief. Prefer that to going to a and e.

Typical pain / cough wasn't as bad when I was on the phone.

With my autism I can't answer things clearly. He asked what the pain is 1-10. I said 4-8 it changes.

He said to get rest how can you with kids.

How are you now @back123456?

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 06/07/2021 15:44

You can get LF tests in uk, order online from gov website or collect from various places participating, they are free and each pack has 5 tests in. Do at home and as pp said results in 15 mins. I ordered and they came next day.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 06/07/2021 17:30

Please see your GP.
I once had throbbing aches in the kidney area and was convinced I had something dire wrong with me.
It was shingles. But not too bad, thank goodness.

TMI!! Please don't read below if you don't like the mention of body fluids!!!!!

Hi. I'm just waiting for a doctor to call me. Last night I coughed up phlegm with blood in it. Not pure blood so hoping that might not be so bad.

I just feel crap. I think it could be a mixture of things.

Hi. It turns out I have large blood clots in both lungs. I stopped in over night. Pain not gone but I'm on medication.
