Help me pick a new hoover

Please and thank you.

Prefer the cylinder kind not the upright kind as I like to use both hands to hold ajd hoover the carpet and rug.

Have a Henry at work and not impressed. I have a mixture if hard floor and carpet but it's that stupid ridgy carpet that collects crap in the corner that the nozles can't get up.

Currently have a Dyson animal.thats avkyt 14 years old and tbh it's not the best. Besides melting due to the friction of the hair it connects against against edge of the main.attachment, it's awfully noisy fir a disappointing amount of suction . Or maybe I'm just fussy I dunno.

I just want something that picks up properly and doesn't loose suction

Meile cylinder

motogogo · 01/07/2021 16:35

With a bag you just open and plunge your hand in, hated my dyson m, style over substance

Whatwouldscullydo · 01/07/2021 16:58

God this is tough. I have carpet, a particularly tough one to hoover properly because it's textured/ridged . It's also cream god knows what the previous owners were thinking Hmm

But they have the Meile c3 and the cat and dog one in my local argos I can click and collect on as my work schedule can be subject to alot of change and I can't garuntee being in for the delivery. But if it's no good on carpet then I might be better taking my chances with the sebo?

The lift away won't be suitable if the cylinder bit that comes away doesn't stand up on its own.

I dont have any pets in the house but there are three if us all with long hair and I have rabbit and live by a field so I get a fair bit of hay or grass trodden into the house so need something that would cope with that

The Sebo we have is x7 pet. Excellent on carpet. The Miele c3 was better on hard floors. The Sebo bags last WAY longer, they last for months and months. The Sebo has front head lights so you can see under furniture etc and a long extension tube you can attach. It’s big though.

I do prefer an upright on carpet and think the Sebo is the best one we’ve had over the years (Dyson, Miele, Bosch). BUT I think their customer service is shite.

My sister absolutely hates her Henry so that put me off too.

DeathMetalMum · 01/07/2021 19:22

Following, also looking and have mainly carpet. We have an upright currently and fed up of taking it apart to cut the hair off the roller, but my last cylinder wasn't as good on the carpet. I'm between a (cheap) miele and a henry pet at the moment.

GiantKitten · 01/07/2021 19:55

Miele is great at picking up long hair IME. It can get caught up in a tangle in the bristles, but easy enough to pull away. We have a combination of carpet and hard floors, and the stair carpet is looped, and it does a great job on all of them. (There’s a small hard tool accessory which is perfect for stairs, and also for upholstery)

Retrieving accidentally hoovered stuff in the bags is doable but messy. I have rescued a few things. I’ve always pulled all the contents out through the hole (& then reused the bag Blush) but you could just cut it open.

GiantKitten · 01/07/2021 19:56

No rabbits or hay here but I do have cat hair and plant-based cat litter and it picks all that up.

AnotherEmma · 01/07/2021 20:04

My Miele is corded but bagless, I didn't want to be faffing with a bag. Also seems a bit wasteful to have to throw and replace the bag.

GoWalkabout · 01/07/2021 20:12

I have the shark lift away (hair tangles round but its easier to remove than the others) and a vax cordless that dh bought (similar to dyson V6, ok but bad for removing the hair). The family find the shark too heavy and awkward. We have long hair and any hoover we have gets matted every week.

Whatwouldscullydo · 01/07/2021 21:52

After all that its not in stock in my local.store Hmm

I dont wanna risk getting a delivery incase it arrives on.a day I'm.at work.

Amazon wouldn't be a good idea for this would it? I have prime and I'm.off tomorrow ...

I bought a Dyson cylinder a few months ago from ebay. After reading all the reviews I found Shark got good reviews for being more affordable but if you want good suction then get a Dyson.

If you buy a refurbished one with warranty on ebay you'll get better value for money.

It has great engineering to allow you to get into small corners. The parts on the hoover enable it to twist and turn in multiple directions to reach reach hard to get to corners.

Whatwouldscullydo · 02/07/2021 10:25

I just got back with my new miele c3.

I'll try it out tomorrow Smile

Thanks eveeyone

We have a bagless Miele Blizzard, i think it was around £300 so pricey but excellent.

DeathMetalMum · 02/07/2021 11:36

I'm trying to decide on a Sebo felix I don't think a cylinder is what we need as we have mainly carpet but not 100%.

Whatwouldscullydo · 02/07/2021 12:06

Wellnall was looking good until I cant attach the hose to the hoover I dunno what I'm.doing wrong

Whatwouldscullydo · 02/07/2021 13:17

Its ok I figured it out and I tried it on a couple of stairs. Wow. The grey fluff border that outlines them may well be finally almost eradicated. To say ots powerful is an understatement its so strong it practically sucks in its own bristles on the dusting brush. It's hard work to operate as u have to realky push/pull it but it makes my Dyson look shit

OP posts:
Paddingtonthebear · 02/07/2021 14:19

Yes the Miele used to lift up the stair carpet on a regular basis in our old house.

Whatwouldscullydo · 02/07/2021 14:30

I haven't decided yet if that's a good or bad thing. But I have 2 stairs that actually look clean now Shock

One question though. What is the turbo brush amd do I need one

OP posts:
GiantKitten · 02/07/2021 14:43

You can turn the suction down on mine. It is very full on with a new bag in!

Does a turbo brush has a beater bar like an old upright hoover? Might be helpful on a very dense pile carpet but not otherwise.

I do the stairs with just the nozzle round the edges, and then the small accessory with the velvet strip for the middles. The full size head is too big.

GiantKitten · 02/07/2021 14:44

I’m sure you’ll have a long and happy life together Grin

Whatwouldscullydo · 02/07/2021 14:51

Grin better do for that price!

I hate my sebo cylinder…the hose kinks constantly and it stops sucking.
