2 days in Manchester/Salford

Does anyone have any recommendations for activities over 2 days next week? One teenager and me.

On previous trips we’ve done Man Utd tour, Football Museum and the Museum of Science and Industry. And Afflecks Palace, for nostalgia’s sake!

We like industrial heritage, computers, art, walking, cycling (we hired the bikes before), football, cinema, gardening and green eco friendly projects but have zero interest in shopping or anything involving talking to people. (ASD). We’re poor sleepers so don’t mind evening/late night walks or events.

We’re booked into IWM North and I really wanted to do a boat trip, but can’t find any that are running at the moment.

We could also do with a recommendation for somewhere for tea. We eat everything except mushrooms, have hearty appetites and a microscopic budget. We’ll be travelling by train.

Thank you!

Here are some recommendations I posted on another recent thread about a few days in Manchester - might be worth doing a search for that one too. Think it was last week.

Jonathan Schofield tours - entertaining, good variety of tours, enjoyed by locals and often gets you access to places you couldn’t visit otherwise. Google his name to find the schedule.

Craft and Design Centre in the Northern Quarter - lovely old building worth seeing even if you don’t buy anything.

Cheap and cheapish places to eat - Pasta Factory (freshly made pasta), Siam Smiles (Thai cafe within Great Northern Warehouse complex - there is a Polish place here too, but have never been), Arndale food market (there is an independent food hall in the market area - cheaper than the bigger and shinier places like Mackie Mayor with some great food).

I’d also add the Whitworth for art and Victoria Baths for history and architecture.

Manchester river cruses seem to have restarted. I previously did an evening one and it was a pleasant trip. The depart from under the bridge on the ship canal by the Lowry Theatre.

@iklboo oh you’re right! They’ve built on it haven’t they? I saw the car park had gone the other day when I drove down Broadway but didn’t look properly

Yes, it's sad. I used to like a mooch in there feeling all posh!
