Someone has painted a smiley face in my garden

Hello
I looked out the window around 9pm tonight and noticed that someone had painted a white smiley face in the middle of my garden!!! I usually look out the window a lot because it's how I let my cats in and out. I didn't notice it In the day which I'm pretty sure I would've. Has this ever happened to anyone????? I'm a single mum so I'm pretty creeped out lol

But if it's your back garden and it's gated, whether or not your lock is secure, someone has trespassed on your private space. Report it!

Trespass is not a criminal offence, there is no crime committed and nothing to report.

Criminal damage, on the other hand, is an offence if damage was caused.

I would report in case it's a known mark for burglars, dog thieves, etc.

Thank you all for your comments I'm going to report it online, I feel abit better now, I think it must of been some kids and not a crazed killer but if you see this thread in the next Netflix documentary about the crazed smiley face killer then you'll know it wasn't 😂😂

This is probably stupid but I grew up on a really rough estate and my first thought would be that someone was tagging your house as a target for burglary. I don’t know why they’d make it a smiley face though!

Have you asked any f your friends if it was them? Maybe it’s one of them trying to cheer you up!

Hopefully just some thoughtless 'prank', but I agree it needs to be reported. Makes me think of the signs that are painted on gates/walls to tell criminals that there is a dog, or whatever in the property.

So annoying that we have to be so vigilant these days, even when we're at home in what should be our own personal 'sanctuary'.

If someone has graffiti'd your garden and made you feel unsafe in your own home, then you have every right to report it.

Glad you survived the night! So weird. Surely must be kids messing around. Strange thing to do though...is this what kids are up to nowadays?! Surprised it's not a penis tbh...

When I was younger we had someone graffiti on our wall (not inside the garden, but still). They obviously lost inspiration for what to write as they just wrote the name of the village 😂

Could it be workmen’s markings? We have all sorts of weird markings on the road and pavements at moment due to gas works going on, maybe a coincidence it looks like a smiley face? Although you would think that if works were going on you’d be notified

I was thinking it might have been a sign that a burglar may have marked to indicate that there were children on the premises in the afternoon or in the morning:

Wasn't there a clown going around one time a few years back creeping people out.

I'd be worried its some kind of symbol to say good to break into the house or not.
Maybe you could power wash it off? Or better still put a plant or a chair covering it so it won't be seen
