Posting for traffic!

Please share your favourite podcasts with me- a newb to the podcast world.

So far I’ve been listening to Failosophy (Elizabeth Day) and Happy Place (Fearne Cotton) — both excellent and would highly recommend!

Best true crime - They Walk Among Us. Also try Monster and the second series Atlanta Monster. Excellent.

If you like science try Daniel and Jorje Explain The Universe or Genetics Unzipped.

Two newer single series Camp Hell about a US "therapy" camp for kids that was anything but and The Turning - The Sisters Who Left about Mother Theresa's order of nuns. Both eye opening.

I also enjoy Unobscured which does some very deep dives into history.

Hoovering is another food chat one with Jessica Fosterkew

Scummy Mummies, like a spoken word version of MN

Something Rhymes with Purple with Gyles Brandreth and Susie Dent, all aspects of language, more entertaining than it might sound

The Green List with Simon Calder - short daily podcast explaining the ins and outs of travel rules. Vital if you're looking to go abroad soon

More or Less if you're interested in numbers

Kitchen Cabinet

BBC Friday night comedy podcast, although they're on Dead Ringers at the moment, I don't like that, but do like the News Quiz and the other one that I can't remember

Older and Wider with Jenni Eclair and Judith somebody

Death in Ice Valley, The Doorstep Murder, Gunplot, Bad People, Girl Taken, all true crime by BBC

Lazurus Heist took me a while to get into but where it went was fascinating

@chaosmoon You're Wrong About is brilliant, have you heard Michael's other podcast, Maintenance Phase, also worth a listen.

ChaosMoon · 29/06/2021 10:00

@MrsBirkett funnily enough, I've just started listening to the one about the President's fitness test. I'm so glad I've found it because I've nearly listened to all the back catalogue of Your Wrong About!

YoureBreakingMyHeartCecilia · 29/06/2021 10:07

Adam Buxton. He’s the absolute king of podcasts and imvho few others come close. Once you’ve listened to him a lot of others start to sound less good though so be warned! He’s not posting new ones at the mo (though will be back) but there’s a MASSIVE back catalogue that saw me through lockdown number 1. He gets incredible guests (Paul McCartney) and loads of great writers/comedians/musicians, it’s a nice mix of very very famous people and some you will never have heard of. I am a tiny bit in love with Adam Buxton!

Louis Theroux also v good.

I like Elizabeth Day’s how to fail but it can grate at times as she can be very very gushing and emotional. Still really worth a listen though, she’s good.

If you want a random US one, try Conan O’Brien’s, it depends on whether or not you find him funny of course (I do) but if you like his style of humour it’s absolutely brilliant and again, his guests are second to none (Barack and Michelle Obama, loads of huge stars, I just listened to one with Paul Rudd which was one of the best interviews I’ve heard)

cleckheatonwanderer · 29/06/2021 10:22

Katherine Ryan, Telling Everybody Everything is great.

Freetodowhatiwant · 29/06/2021 10:25

Joan and Jericha is very good. Fortunately. Adam Buxton. The Big Travel Podcast. Also really like Fearne Cotton’s one.

RickiTarr · 29/06/2021 10:26

Yes both are brilliant, with only minor points deducted for taking a very woke line on a couple of things, without nuance.

As PPs have said, Teacher’s Pet is very good. It’s investigative journalism and crime. In fact, it is SO good that it has been unavailable in Australia for a year in case it influences legal proceedings there. So it’s about to become very topical.

Puppylucky · 29/06/2021 10:28

Adam Buxton every time!

thismeansnothing · 29/06/2021 10:38

To Live & Die in LA Season 2 started recently with a new story

WheeshtTheNoo · 29/06/2021 10:50

My therapist ghosted me.

I also really like Vogue Williams and Spencer Matthews podcast even if I feel she just says stuff for a reaction from Spencer.

Luanna has me laughing every week too.

Maggiesgirl · 29/06/2021 11:03

Atlantic: A Scottish Story.
Its a Musical Podcast on the story of St Kilda Island. Only on week 2 but its lovely.

peachyandkeen · 29/06/2021 12:43

Any recommendations for podcasts to do with mental health / healing / spirituality / wellness etc?

Also any for learning about a random different thing each week? Smile

Mxflamingnoravera · 29/06/2021 13:27

peachy I recommend Blindboy on mental health, but only if you can cope with swearing! He is based in Limerick in the ROI and does at least one cast a month on MH. He suffers badly with anxiety and trained as a psychotherapist although he did not finish the training. But he talks well on CBT and mindfulnes and he is good on anxiety and how he gets through lockdown etc. But as I said, if you don't like swearing, stay clear!

BusMum79 · 29/06/2021 13:40

@GCNC I’m now completely lost in the Trashy Divorces back catalogue! Thank you. Always love discovering something new.

peachyandkeen · 29/06/2021 14:21

Thank you for the recommendation @Mxflamingnoraverax — I’ll check it out now!
