How do you use your credit card?

I have a credit card and I tend to put all my wages except bills/direct debits from my current account on to my credit card on pay day. Then I solely use my credit card in the month. Paying for everything else... fuel, food etc.

Is this normal?

The only issue I have is that when I pay in to the credit card I haven’t actually paid the full credit off as I’m still trying to catch up from a car issue a few months ago, so this month e.g:

£3000 in debt.
£500will be added on pay day.
Approx £300-400 will be used.
£100 will be paid towards the debt.

Is this a totally random way of doing things?

Cheers!

Basically you need a plan to clear the £3k debt.
The 0% runs out in December, so you need to find an extra £500 every month between now and then - if that feasible? Are you also saving elsewhere? Anything you can cut back on for a few months? Anyway of earning extra income, or selling things you no longer use?

If you don't anticipate being able to repay it you need to look at transferring it to a new 0% when the rate changes.
However you still need a plan to repay it, over whatever period is feasible.

I do have a credit card for emergencies, I haven't used it for at least five years.

I used to use it and pay for expenses and immediately pay the amount off the card ( daily) as the credit card used to give me airmiles for flights home to family. They don't offer this incentive anymore so I don't bother.

I get cashback on my credit card so put absolutely everything on there and then pay off each time my salary comes in.

I use my credit card for everything and then pay it off at the end of the month. I do it for the points which I convert to airmiles.

I use mine for all of my spending other than bills. It's linked to my phone for Apple pay and always has more available on it than my current spending account does, so I like knowing it'll never be declined. I pay with it and then every week or so clear the balance from my personal account, or our shared account, or savings if necessary (the latter rarely happens). I don't carry any debt over on it from month to month, it's simply used because I like the feeling of knowing it has a lot available on it (for example towards the end of the month if I only have £100 in my personal account it's nice to go food shopping and not have to worry about staying under it, and be able to go a few quid over) so it's less hassle, and for the fact that large purchases have more protection on a CC.

I use my credit card for all online purchases where I can't use paypal. I then pay it off in full every month.

I don't think many people would use it the way you do op. It's unusual.

I buy absolutely everything on my credit card (get Tesco points) and pay it off in full every month.

Every time I buy something I move the same money from my current account (where my wages go) into another current account - to make sure I will have enough to pay it off. DDs for bills go at the start of the month.

MrsDThomas · 29/06/2021 20:33

Im paying off mine do i don’t use them. I have 3 on interest free and i WILL be debt free by December 2022.

Worse thing i did was getting one.

I find your way rather odd

MyDcAreMarvel · 29/06/2021 20:37

I use my credit card for all spending except things that have to be cash or direct debit. I then pay off in full each month. I earn approx £300 a year cash back by doing this.

RevolutionRadio · 29/06/2021 20:39

I use my credit card for bigger purchases and towards the end of the month of money has been tight. Pay it off in full each month when I get paid.

TheChosenTwo · 29/06/2021 20:55

I use my CC for holidays and hotels etc.
But pay it off by the end of the month. It’s not a 0% anymore (it was when I transferred a balance over to it but it’s paid off now and back on zero which is where it’s staying!).
Really just use it for the protection and wouldn’t spend on it at all if I didn’t have the funds from my current account to transfer immediately over - credit card debt terrifies me, my mum got into a real pickle with them years ago and I’m scarred for life.

I use my CC for everything and pay the balance at the end of the month. Mine is an Air France KLM AMEX so we quickly accumulate a lot of air miles. Sod all use they are at the moment though Hmm
