Teachers, if you were to receive an end of year gift, what kind of things would you prefer?. I’m wanting to get my DC’s teacher a gift for the hard work she has done for them but I don’t just want to get any old tat I’ve seen advertised. What has been your favourite gift?.

I think class collections are a great idea. If everyone in my class contributed £1, they could give me a £30 book token. I'd have a wonderful time in my local bookshop and for parents, it's cheaper than buying individual presents.

I also love handmade cards and messages from children or parents.

We had class zoom calls during lockdown so that children at home could see their friends. The class teachers led the chat and made sure that all children were involved. Afterwards, one of the the parents took the trouble to email the head with some lovely comments and the head forwarded the email to me. I really appreciated it and will probably remember the email more than any presents which I might receive at the end of the year.

Gifts are always appreciated but never expected. Messages in cards or on bits of paper can mean so much. A child I taught in year 2 came to me on her last day in year 6 from her junior school which was near by. She gave me a box of malteasers and a card and said 'I will never forget you' and rushed off. Inside the card it simply said 'Thankyou for making me believe in me.' I still have it and it still means so much. It keeps me going!

I always give stationary and booze, this year I think I will go with stationary again.
