So I have NC as when you’ve got it, it’s the final identifying piece in my posting history.

This is what he wrote when I asked him to write his name down today. What is it?

What is my son’s name?

Thank you Walker. I’ve been having a really rough time with her lately having meltdowns but having little breakthroughs like that make it all worthwhile. ❤️

Tobias

I love this thread. Couldn't guess Tobias but impressed others could. Matilda's is great! My DS couldn't even pick up a pen at 3 so these all look good to me!!
I love it when the get to the phonically plausible phase. 'i plaid with a bownsee borl' and 'it was an amerjansee' being some of my kids best ones.

They certainly do ❤️ It’s great she can draw animals too, drawing is my favourite hobby and I was always a bit sad my daughter never shown an interest. And she didn’t write her name until 4.5 and I believed she was a genius 😂

Ooh that's devilishly difficult ... is it Satan?

Jellybabiesforbreakfast · 18/06/2021 22:21

Well done him, but early success in literacy is no guarantee of eventual outcome. Early learning methods can often be by route rather than understanding, so I wouldn’t be cheering just yet

What a dour post.

He looks like he's doing well, OP, but I'm secretly wishing it had been Satan. I love the sound of the name Lucifer but obviously that one was a non-starter for my DC Grin.

Doesn’t it blow your mind that we all learn to put these strange markings on paper that become forms of communication. Like little cave men (and women) making the first marks on the cave wall!

(I promise I’ve not been smoking weed although my post makes me sound high af 🤣).

AcrobaticAlphabet · 18/06/2021 22:31

@hazandduck Aww, I love that! All the letters are there and it’s actually really understandable to follow! I didn’t get children’s writing before but now I absolutely love it. It’s great to see them try to express with what the know. I love it!

And Walker I love to draw too, we always have all the pencils/paints/paper out and just draw together. She likes us ‘doing work’ together which is me drawing whatever she wants me to and her copying it! I know they say you should let them just draw freely as toddlers but I have shown her how basic shapes make things up, she does a pretty good Mickey Mouse now 😂

AcrobaticAlphabet · 18/06/2021 22:34

@hazandduck Cross post, but absolutely! That’s kind of how I think about it. We’ve got these tiny children trying to communicate with full grown adults and using the previous tools without understanding. If kind of (but only kind of) love to see small children rebel and go to their own forms of communication- like hieroglyphs

Thanks @AcrobaticAlphabet I was impressed with Tobias’ too, I worked it out quickly. It’s so lovely when they suddenly grasp things!

You don’t ever think about it til you are teaching someone everything like a blank slate! I love how she is just curious about everything. She was amazed by a bit of mud on her wall the other day. It was a moth!
