IKEA trip

We moved into a new (to us) home last week and I'm heading to IKEA tomorrow to pick up bits and bobs. I mainly need things to maximise storage space in big cupboards but also live an IKEA trip for all the unnecessary, random stuff I come home with.

What do I absolutely need to buy? What do you recommend?

Obviously the meatballs are a requirement - that goes without saying

@Borrasca

What is a socktopus and should I go to IKEA today to get this mysterious object? Grin
There are few bits of household equipment that are truly life changing but the socktopus is one. You will never look back

Obviously a 50p IKEA bag. I use it for my laundry.

The silicon lids are brilliant.

Last time I got these very thin orange biscuits. No idea what they were called but they were lovely.

Oooo lots to think about thank you everyone.

Storage- wise it's more ways to maximise my big deep cupboard in the kitchen. It's floor to ceiling and about a meter deep, two meters wide. Ideally I'd shelf it but the boiler is at the back so I need things that can easily be moved if need be. I'm thinking a trolley do some sort to store cans of juice, spare kitchen roll and such like on it 🤔

Also looking for something to maximise storage under the sink, again the pipes stop me putting an extra shelf in so hoping they have something that will help.

My food cupboards are great big cupboards which is fab but already hurting my very organised brain that likes a place for everything as the cereal is getting mixed with the breads and with the tins etc already so I'll need something to organise this.

Definitely want under bed storage boxes thank you.

My socktopus(es i?) Anyway multiple socktopus have ended up in my classroom for drying paintings so she'll get a new one.

Lots of extra suggestions - DH will not let me loose there again after this

Could a socktopus be the new Mumsnetter secret code? Is there any of us who don't have them?

We have two and I find it strangely pleasing when there are exactly the correct number of socks and pants to fill both of them with no spare pegs or laundry.

You are my kindred spirit, Barbara.

Although one of mine has a peg broken so it needs to be an odd number of items.

The other one the kitten attached so it's tentacles are all broken (still works but some tentacles are up and some are realy down)

Tubs of crispy fried onions from the Swedish food market. Only 75p compared to £1.50 from Asda/Tesco!

Have you thought about a tension rod for under your sink, OP? You can hang spray bottles on it.

Mini daims. I adore them.

The dinosaurs www.ikea.com/gb/en/search/products/?q=j%C3%A4ttelik

I love the plant balls as well, kids still haven't figured out they're eating vegetables. Not the veggie ones, but the ones in dark green packaging.

Their metal steamers
Clips to close opened packets
Shelf organisers :D

[/quote] That’s genius - my undersink is a spaghetti junction of pipes, so no room for a shelf and a massive bone of contention for me.

Defo doing this.
