Shaving before swimming

Frazzled2207 · 07/06/2021 21:03

Really have not had an exciting time during the pandemic but am going swimming later this week with the smalls for the first time in I can’t remember so careful to shave all appropriate bits as I always used to.

But it made me think- as I find it a sensitive area and quite difficult due to having an awkwardly located cyst - is it ever ok to go swimming and not shave underarms/legs/tops of legs? I don’t think I’ve ever really noticed what other people do which I suppose is a good thing and suggests we can all just do what we like. But until now I guess I thought it was some kind of unwritten rule. Is it?

Just to balance it off as people will my view might be too worried to post but I don't care:

I laser underarms and Brazilian. Shave legs so they're always lovely soft and moisturised.

My personal view is that underarm/pubic hair looks gross.
Yes 'it's your choice' not to shave but it's also 'your choice' not to shower, wear deodorant, or brush your hair. I take pride in how I look and take care of how I look aesthetically.

Those who don't shave - do your husbands not mind the long thick hair when giving you oral sex? ShockBlushIt's so much nicer to give when it's smooth and tidy! Goes for both men and women.

Shodan

These threads always remind of Smack The Pony... grin

@Shodan That’s brilliant Grin Love, love, love it.

Between equating not shaving with not showering or brushing your hair and assuming everyone has husbands I’m not quite sure where to start with your posts @Veronika13, so I’ll just say bless your heart…

I'm single. Literally no one sees me naked.

I shave my underarms but don't often bother with my legs, my leg hair is blonde and fine so you can only see it if you kneel down and look close.

Veronika13 · 08/06/2021 05:39

Those who have husbands then @Sunbird24 🤷‍♀️
I find hairy armpits similar to not brushing the teeth.
I have the above views, you probably don't - I'm sure we're both happy and content and that's all that matters 😃

Just out of interest do you feel the same about hairy armpits on men? I would find it odd if you think underarm hair is gross on women but not men. If you think it's gross on both then fair enough!
PandoraP · 08/06/2021 06:03

People shave underarm hairs too? I would only do that if I was extremely hairy. I don’t get all the angst about body hair.

Onesnowynight · 08/06/2021 06:15

I use a bikini shaver for my bikini line and over my public hair. Takes it very short and non noticeable without the risk of itchy ingrown hairs.

Erinrose82 · 08/06/2021 06:28

I notice people but not for horrible reasons. I'm naturally really hairy. Dark . I was teased when younger and it's stuck with me. I hate shaving I've probably spent years on hair removal:. What a bloody waste ! I really admire women that don't bother. Honestly why should we ? It should be personal choice. But then I can't because I can hear the taunts in my head and I shave again....

Erinrose82 · 08/06/2021 06:30

And I'm so jealous when I hear a blonde woman say it's not noticeable! Mine is black !

Early 40s here. The only hair on my body is on my head, ‘has been the way for many years. Personal choice. But if someone wants to go swimming or anything else come to that, with body hair on view, relax and go for it. That’s your personal choice too.

Maybe there’s a little irony though in those who claim to embrace their body hair and criticise others for removing theirs and then choose swimwear that hides it?

My personal view is that underarm/pubic hair looks gross.

So in your life, not including TV and magazines with celebzzzz in, can you look back at a fund at out at the beach/swimming pool and recall an actual person who had a hairy bikini line or hairy legs/armpits?

I can’t, ever, I can’t recall the body hair on anyone I’ve ever met. Can you?

FTEngineerM · 08/06/2021 06:54

Fund at out = fun day out

Ijustreallywantacat · 08/06/2021 07:00

I stopped shaving anything about 5 years ago and I love it. I'm extremely pale and sensitive skinned, and shaving leaves me with a horrid red rash. Creams are a massive pita and I won't even think about waxing! And no, partner doesn't mind at all Grin

wildeverose · 08/06/2021 07:06

I personally remove all my body hair, bar my head! That's a completely personal preference, I find it uncomfortable and itchy on myself and hate it.
I would never, judge another woman, or man at that, for what they chose to do with their body hair. And after years of swimming and being at the beach, in the uk and abroad - I can honestly say I've never noticed someone's hair, because I don't give a shit. The same way no one notices I have none!
Go swimming! Leave the cyst, embrace the natural ❤️

StarlightLady · 08/06/2021 07:07

Those of us who opt to remove our body hair do not just do it for partners; some single people do it too.

It is also not new, it was practised in Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome.

MinnieMountain · 08/06/2021 07:09

I might notice others physiques at the pool but never judge (unless they’re swimming like a twat in the lanes).

Never notice body hair.

Livingintheclouds · 08/06/2021 07:09

I don't shave my legs at all - as it happens I'm not that hairy. I might notice if some one had not shaved their underarms, but only because most adult women do - it wouldn't bother me in the slightest. And I'm (hopefully) not getting close enough to you to notice your leg hair.

I take pride in how I look. So does dp. Neither of us shave. HTH
MonkeyPuddle · 08/06/2021 07:23

@Veronika13 I don’t trim or remove my pubes and DP gives me oral on a regular basis. It’s never crossed my mind to ask him his opinion on my pubes 🤷‍♀️
I’ve given oral to women, pube trimmers, removers and au natural and it was the trimmed pubes that were a bit scratchy, giving oral to a woman with a bush it’s exactly harder that to someone without.

MonkeyPuddle · 08/06/2021 07:25

*its not exactly harder

Muddydoor · 08/06/2021 07:25

Before lockdown, I used to take dd to a fun session where there were loads of teens the most judgy people in the world. They didn’t care that I hadn’t shaved. Most people don’t. We’re all too busy worrying about ourselves.
