Bristol - night out

Looking for advice from people in the know!

4 of us are planning to meet in Bristol in July - we're coming from all over the country, so don't know it well. Any recommendations for somewhere to go for dinner and then drinks? We only see each other about once a year or so, so we want to be able to chat away to our hearts' content.

I know I could google/tripadvisor etc, but MN has come up with great recommendations in the past, so I'm hoping the same will be true again.

Wow - some great recommendations here. Thank you.

Sadly, many are already booked for when we're going (proving that they must indeed be good...)

@MonkeysandParrots - I might take you up on your offer for another dig, seeing as you've got your sleeves rolled up already... the restaurants you've recommended are spot on (but all booked).

Are they? Bugger. Ok, let’s try again ..,

The Kensington Arms - great food, quite pub like rather than restaurant but don’t let that put you off. Their roasts are awesome btw if you need somewhere for Sunday lunch before heading home!

Bulrush, yummy, can be a bit ‘cheffy’ at times…

A real favourite (and actually more central than the two above so would be more flexible if you are staying in town)

Last suggestion - I’ve never been here but hear great things.

Hope that’s more helpful!

Oh, am just off to torture myself trying to run in the heat … will check back in later!

Prego!

If you have a cat allergy or are affronted by the overwhelming stench of cat piss I'd heartily suggest that you give The Bag O' Nails a big swerve.
It burnt my eyes and nostrils for days.

The cats are quite cute though, but it looks so unhygienic, hair everywhere.

I suggest Whiteladies Road or Clifton.

Although if you want to venture out of the city centre a bit, then The Lockup in Redfield is most excellent.

Thought of one more option …

If you want an all in one destination with STUNNING VIEWS of the Clifton Suspension Bridge, go here:

Weirdly I am actually at Breaking Bread right now. The food is not good.

TerrifiedandWorried · 08/06/2021 22:24

Should say am at the Pipe and Lovers bit.

MonkeysandParrots · 09/06/2021 00:25

Yeah, I had some food at Pipe & Lovers before comedy gig at the weekend, was alright, chicken wings were good. Homegrown is in TOTALLY different league.
