Have you ever breed your dog?

I'm considering dipping my toe in considering it.

What are important considerations? How did your dog cope? How many times does your dog meet the stud? Do they meet before you hope she'll stand?

I adore my dog, she and I have a great bond, I almost feel like I'm betraying her just thinking about it.

No! I am not a backyard breeder! I have a boy and girl Cockapoo. Their puppies could have sold for £3,000 each.

If I was geared toward money I would have bred them. I prefer my dogs to live a happy, carefree life so I have no inclination to breed them for personal, monetary, gain.

There are far too many unscrupulous dog breeders in the World. I have no wish to be one of them them 😟

There's no real money in breeding if you do it properly

Even after all the recommended health tests, chipping the pups, giving them the best possible diet/start, I think with potentially 12 puppies (in my pedigree breed which are currently going for £2K per pup), I cannot imagine it cost £24K. Of course there’s money in it, even if done properly, that’s why so many people are doing it currently.

I know a labradoodle breeder, both parents are thoroughly tested, the breeder is super fussy about who gets the dogs and has 2 hours FaceTime with potential owners plus requires very in depth references, but she’s charging over £3K per pup (latest litter 11). Let’s not pretend this isn’t a great money maker, even when you fork out fortunes on proper BVA health tests.

I’ve just googled your dog, and they are fine beasts. Are they related to Bloodhounds?
I have always fancied breeding my own show winner. But I don’t show and have a feeling that it would be a very long, expensive and heartbreaking process! So it’s another thing I just dream about. However, similar to what others have said, if nobody breeds good quality dogs then there will be none left.
Do you know a good breeder who could talk to you properly about this?
