Stuff that works again and again in books and films but wouldn't happen in real life

Terrorist attack? Biochemical attack? Pandemic? You (as president) need to bring in a maverick against the advice of all your advisors and anyone with half a brain.
If male, they must live in their mum's basement and wear band t shirts. If female, they must be hot and geeky, and maybe have a bit of a hazy past.
Go and put your feet up. Sorted.

Oh until they decide you're the threat and turn against you. But that's not till page 300/season six.

Baddies with machine guns will spray bullets and hit nothing, but the 'star' pops up with the pistol and hits the baddie first time.

They will kill off a character and everyone accepts it. They kill off another (popular) character and a random loophole is found to bring them back to life, but it only works for the popular character and on one else.

Masses of henchmen are slayed left right and centre and nothing about it ever makes the news and neither do they have families who make enquiries.

If someone stops breathing then 10 seconds of ineffective CPR and a "come on goddammit, I'm not going to lose you today" and your patient will open their eyes and be fine. Also if you need an ambulance urgently that's all you need to say down the phone before you hang up, don't bother clarifying the location or saying what's happened.

Magazines holding unlimited rounds, and if they do reload, just dropping the magazines.

I can't see real life QMs and Armourers being happy with all the lost magazines...

In a book I just read, the spy kept getting out of trouble be waving their diplomatic passport...

Software works flawlessly, there is no lag, no load time, and experienced analysts are always pleantiful and on hand.

NewMatress · 20/05/2021 09:22

One unarmed man can take on six armed men who are twice his size...although I have always wondered if, maybe, people trained to do that do exist...?

Timeforabiscuit · 20/05/2021 09:22

If there is any haziness in parentage, then the two love interests are almost certainly blood relations.

How far this transfers into real life is debatable!

YesIDoLoveCrisps · 20/05/2021 09:23

Being knocked unconscious and then 2 seconds later running around and fighting the baddie

Yes I've noticed that. Scores of 'filler people' can get killed but kill one key character and all hell breaks loose.

The hero always wins, it doesn’t matter what adversity they come up against or how powerful their enemy is.

Haha, and USB cables/drives never need turning over because they've tried to plug them in upside down initially.

Credit cards that open doors by shoving them in the gap.

Chairs under door handles to stop the door opening

A piece of wire in the door lock to open it.

All I’ve which I’ve tried and never work ...

All women are ready for instant sex.

The thing is that the other five men just stand there watching them fight one on one when in reality, it would be more of a pile on, I reckon. What's the point of outnumbering your enemy if you're just going to stand and watch the fight, waiting your turn.

But then in films, tiny women can do it also. I once watched a film where Kate Beckinsale threw Colin Farrell around a room and came out of it with nary a bruise.

Hitting people on the head to render them temporarily unconscious with no ill effects afterwards.

Friend or ally getting in your way? Just punch them in the jaw or clonk them over the head with a blunt object. They'll immediately lose consciousness for the appropriate amount of time, allowing you to go about your heroics, before waking up with a mild headache and a rueful look. Yay 🤨

One of the many things I love about the show Archer is how they lampshade this trope - they always say how dangerous it is and Archer has ever-worsening tinnitus from his repeated head trauma 😁

Keyboards are incredibly loud. CLICK CLICK CLICKETTY CLICK as the master hacker searches the deep dark web.

Yes to ready for sex. Your love interest turns up out of the blue after three years and there you are in your best underwear, sweet-smelling with no hairy legs.

Zzelda · 20/05/2021 09:33

People who know the mobile phone numbers of randoms they've just met without having to ask.

EastofEdna · 20/05/2021 09:34

Main characters having brain tumours and life saving operations and emerging with no scars and full heads of hair.

accentdusoleil · 20/05/2021 09:37

People can work out other people's passwords to work computers within the three attempts or it's written on a piece of paper stuck under the desk

I can't even remember my own passwords never mind work out someone else's

Zzelda · 20/05/2021 09:37

Cops/forensic scientists/amateur detectives etc who always find an empty parking space immediately outside their destination as soon as they arrive.

Annoy · 20/05/2021 09:39

People arrange to meet but never say where or when

Zenithbear · 20/05/2021 09:39

Nobody ever disarms the baddie who is 'dead' but suddenly comes alive to grab the gun and try to shoot the hero/heroine but is shot dead just in time.

AmandaHoldensLips · 20/05/2021 09:39

Being able to instantly prepare and present a highly-complicated animated graphic of looming disaster with handy countdown clock to a room full of important people.

Annoy · 20/05/2021 09:40

You can get thrown half way down a street in to a car, or across a room in to a wall but then still get up and fight back despite denying the car or knocking down a pillar
