My dp was like a kid at Christmas. I'm not a football fan but the interview with him afterwards made me smile.

I grew up on the Wirral when it was Liverpool, Everton or atheist (apart from the lost souls following Tranmere. I moved to West Yorkshire and my son follows LFC, like me. I would cry if he followed Leeds (jk)

Yes, I'm not a mega fan or anything but I take an interest and I'm happy if DH is happy!

Ah, so thats what my neighbours were shouting and cheering for. They made quite a lot of noise from an 81 and 83 year old 😂

I am 😎 (but I have zero interest in football). They're geordies though.

Tyredofallthis1 · 16/05/2021 19:48

Liverpool have form for making us wait. Did anyone else watch the Istanbul final? I was so downhearted after the first half, and found it so hard to drag myself back to the telly (but if you support in the good times, you support in the bad times, right?) that I missed the first goal of the second half.

I swear in the eighties that a load of their wins came in the last ten minutes. Though not usually from a goalkeeper.

Oh , now I don't know where that will sit on the spreadsheet. Allowed to support LFC but don't.

It's like a rollercoaster. Not good for the nerves. Grin

It was incredible - what a header! He came across so well in his post-match interview, too - such a gent. (Liverpool fan since the 80s, no links to Liverpool other than over 30 years of supporting them!)

Tyredofallthis1 · 16/05/2021 19:59

@torquewench how did you get away with not following football? I was about 100 yards outside the Merseyside border, and I went to my first match (non-league) around six months old.

My husband, Yorkshire to the bone, isn't bothered, so I don't really follow these days. I just keep an eye on the scores and the gossip.

BoredatHome321 · 16/05/2021 20:09

@newnortherner111 I support my local team in league one. Doesn't mean you can't enjoy/watch other teams though? I've loved Liverpool from a young age (Steven Gerrard being a massive influence) I don't support them, but can still enjoy their success. Hmm

Snuzzle · 16/05/2021 20:17

We went crazy in my house, Liverpool always do it the hard way and supporting them is like being on a rollercoaster.
I watched the post match interview with tears in my eyes - lost my dad not long ago too and felt very emotional for Alisson.
For the record I don’t live on Merseyside either but my mum was born just round the corner from Anfield and the whole family are red.

Im also originally from just over the Merseyside border😅. My parents and brother were never interested, nor was my scouse ex-h. Nor are any of my friends so its never really been on my radar. I couldnt name or identify a current player from either team. But two of my primary school friends were daughters of former Everton players from the 70s and 80s. And a few retired players live nearby, and also a former Liverpool manager. Im always glad to hear when local teams are doing well though. Im more interested in a different sport.

BackforGood · 16/05/2021 20:34

We (Baggies fan) woz robbed

Not that it makes any difference to our position Sad

Quirrelsotherface · 16/05/2021 20:57

Considering Alisson is Brazilian presumably he shouldn't be allowed to play for Liverpool, he should play for a local team for local people?

@Sparklingbrook

I have done the Anfield Stadium tour. Twice. I am practically Liverpudlian TBF.
😂😂😂 you definitely are, @Sparklingbrook! 😆
Horsemad · 16/05/2021 21:29

I should add that it was a bit mad in our house too. DS (who wasn't born in Liverpool 🤨 however his Mum was! 😉) was dancing around!!

GizmosBandana · 16/05/2021 21:42

I'm made up for Alisson after the year he's had. Liverpool don't half have a habit of leaving us living on our nerves! I nearly went into labour watching the game against Barcelona to reach the Champions League Final 😂 I couldn't cope with the stress of watching it on the telly so took myself off to sit on the stairs, but as we live opposite Anfield I could hear every 'ooh' and 'aah' from the crowd which was even worse!

OMG, I must have rewatched it ten times! What about the post-match interview, I bloody well cried! Poor Ali has had a shitty time of it just lately, I'm so happy for him.

WRT the other issue, may I remind everyone that the city of Liverpool is one of the most inclusive places you could ever go to. Us Scousers do not care who you are or where you are from - if you stand with us, we stand with you. As Gerry Marsden sang:
People around every corner
Seem to smile and say
We don't care what your name is, boy
We'll never turn you away

Horsemad · 16/05/2021 22:53

@Sparklingbrook 🙂

AlanThePig · 16/05/2021 23:04

Best keeper goal I ever saw was Asmir Begovic playing for stoke against Southampton. Player passed the ball back, Bego kicked it forward, the wind got behind it and he scored. From his own goal mouth. The length of the pitch.
Stadium erupted.

Holds the record for the longest goal scored. Never forget that moment.

Volcanoexplorer · 16/05/2021 23:10

Dh and ds went absolutely crazy! Both massive fans. We’re not in Merseyside, but we are less than 10 miles from Anfield. Fil is also a huge fan and is from Bootle originally.
