Can you stub toe and break it

Last Monday I stubbed my little toe on the side of a wooden door.

It bent and crunched. When I say it hurt, I mean it took all my effort not to swear, cry, fall over.

It was a bit achey, I could not walk far on the first day and over the course of the week most of the toe went red and the muscles to the side of my foot swelled and went blue but have gone back to normal. Bending the toe is fairly sore.

I just had a bath and as I was drying my feet I bent the toe and it made a popping sound. It really fricking hurt. It's now sore again.

I have a feeling this could be a ligament or maybe broken.

Anyone had this before? I've just looked online and it says as long as it's not the big toe you should be able to manage it at home and can put cotton wool between toes and strap it to the next toe. Well that sounds comfy. It also says avoid sport while its painful. For up to 6 weeks. I'm really annoyed as I joined the gym 😭

Maybe you dislocated it ? , I did this whilst on holiday , stubbed it on a step bare footed , hurt like hell , then a couple of days hobbling around (toe was blue) I walked up some steps , trod awkwardly , the toe felt spongy and popped back in , more or less instantly it stopped hurting and within about 30 mins you wouldn't have known it had been a problem

Toes are really easy to break - sometimes it doesn't even hurt very much! My brother had to have his foot x-rayed for something else and they pointed out he had half-healed breaks in three of his toes as well. He'd hurt them but it hadn't occurred to him they were broken!

Popping sound does sound as if it might be dislocated though.

Yes I stubbed my toe on concrete steps on a beach

Bruised the next day but only realised when I was back home from holiday and it hurt when wearing stilettos

I’ve broken my toes so many times it is beyond ridiculous. Actually, I haven’t broken a bone since I married DH because he knows how clumsy I am so he metaphorically wrapped me in cotton wool and steps in to do all the sorts of tasks where he knows I am likely to hurt myself.

I passed my dh innocently sitting on the couch with his legs crossed, and stubbed my baby toe on his shoe. Oh my god. It went black over half of the top of my foot, such bruising, i knew it needed to be seen. X-ray, big ortho boot for 6 weeks and lots of rest and ice. Taping it to the next toe really helped. I put a cotton pad between them, then taped them firmly. Kept it still and safe.

Ouch!

Yes, was stupidly playing football indoors in a corridor. Went to kick the ball but missed and kicked the door frame instead. Broke my middle toe.
