What height are you and how much do you weigh please? Or what is your BMI?

Also maybe which shops you buy 12s from.

I've lost a lot of weight lately and finding that size 14s from some shops are getting too big.

But - I feel like I'm too heavy to be a 12.

I don't shop in fancy places really. M&S. Next. Supermarkets.

But my BMI is 28. I really thought in my head I'd need to be a healthy weight before I was even close to a 12.

Size 12 in M&S. 5 foot 1, 9 stone 3.5lb. BMI of 24.7.

Being so short, my BMI goes up much quicker when I gain a few pounds than someone much taller.

PrinnyPree · 14/05/2021 15:21

5ft5 10st7 BMI 24.4 size 12
over 11stone I'm more of a size 14
I need to be about 9st10 and exercising to get into a size 10

But these are averages I can be 10 or 14 dependant on the shop.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 14/05/2021 15:25

Size 12. 5ft 6. 74kgs. No idea about BMI. I get a lot of my clothes from ASOS. Ive recently got some size 12 stuff from Oasis/Warehouse and they feel quite small

PrinnyPree · 14/05/2021 15:26

Supermarket sizes do run big, at least a size over other clothes shops I find. Xx

So a 12 in a supermarket would be a 14 in most other clothes shops x

Try not to get to worried about sizes though and just get what fits, if its running big get the next size down. Xxx

OxanaVorontsova · 14/05/2021 15:27

14 bottom half 12 top half
5’7
84kg
BMI 29
I have always weighed heavier than I look.

JamCrackers · 14/05/2021 15:29

I don’t know what my BMI is, but I’m 5’11 and weigh 11 st 4 lbs and am a size 12 in most shops I buy from, 14 if I occasionally buy from youth/fast fashion brands like Boohoo, Shein etc.

@Sick

You should look at my body gallery, you might find it interesting.

Clothes sizes are inconsistent and weird and there are way more factors in how clothes fit than just weight.

I got "You are truly unique Be the first to upload a photo with your body type and be mentor to those like you." Oh.
MaverickDanger · 14/05/2021 15:31

Normally a 12 at 5ft 9 and 75kg.

Currently 84kg (still losing pregnancy weight) and a 14, sometimes a 16 in places like River Island & for tops as I’m still breastfeeding.

ItWasLikeThatWhenIGotHere · 14/05/2021 15:33

I find that M&S size 12 is a good fit for “slightly overweight” though of course it depends on body shape and height.

BackforGood · 14/05/2021 15:35

@TooMuchAndNotEnough

Clothing sizes are far too variable to be a reliable guide of anything. Wear what fits, ignore the size labels.
This ^ 100%

I've got the odd thing I can still wear that rather ridiculously says '10' and I've put out other things that say 14 that I can no longer get in to.

shhplease · 14/05/2021 15:35

Size 12, 11.3 stone and 5'10

TheAlphaandtheOmega · 14/05/2021 15:53

Size 12-14, 5'10" 11 stones, shop in Next Tall, Seasalt and WhiteStuff mainly, M&S usually too short apart from the longer length trousers.

Athinginitself · 14/05/2021 15:56

5 2" 9.2 Am a size 12 in most places.

Oh wow that is a fascinating gallery!

I know people get uppity if you say bmi is flawed and I don't say it out loud for fear of judgement because I am not toned all over and do still need to lose maybe 7 pounds...

However I am the same weight (and therefore bmi) now that I was when I'd just given birth a couple of years ago. But my body is different. My then body had thighs that kind of had to cross over each other to walk and my trousers were size 18. My current trousers are a 14 and my thighs are extremely muscular thanks to running.

fluffythedragonslayer · 14/05/2021 16:09

Size 14 here, but a have a few shirts and dresses in a 12, trousers always 14 tho getting looser as I'm losing weight. 5ft nothing, 10 and a half stone. BMI 28.

oober · 14/05/2021 16:12

I'm 5 foot 8, 12 stone 6lbs, and wearing a size 14, mainly M&S, Asda, Matalan, those kind of places.

Xiaoxiong · 14/05/2021 16:13

Size 12, 73.5kg, 168cm so that puts me on a BMI of 26. I am a pretty curvy hourglass figure though and very top-heavy (34G boobs), so sometimes I wear a 12 or even a 10 on the bottom and a 14 top, depends on the shop, the clothing item etc. I have tried dresses that are 12 that fit everywhere except the boobs, dresses that are 14 that fit my boobs but hang like a sack around my waist. I wish I could afford everything tailor-made.

Miseryl · 14/05/2021 16:13

5'5" 10st 10lb ish BMI 24.9

sociallydistained · 14/05/2021 16:15

I’m 5’6 and 11.3 having come from 12.7 in Jan just about squeezing into my 14s. They’ve got looser and looser but I’ve only just now got into 12s. Still able to wear loose 14s and hoping as I lose a bit more weight for the 12s to be even more comfortable. It varies shop to shop though. I have some 12s in my wardrobe that JUST go on and then I have just bought a lovely pair of jeans from Joules which fit perfectly!

CeeceeBloomingdale · 14/05/2021 16:18

5'2" currently 10st 7lbs and a small 14. At 11st 7lbs I was a standard 14. I have been as low as 8st 3lbs and was still a size 12. My dress size doesn't seem to change much although I look better without the weight obviously. I tend to shop in places that have smaller sizing like H&M and Zara.

GrumpyHoonMain · 14/05/2021 16:24

Vanity sizing usually helps women with bigger midsections so they often think they’re smaller than they actually are. I wear a H&M 14 /16 and am pear shaped - my waist is now 28 inches, hips 40, bust 40. I weigh 12 stones, am 5 ft 7. But in many other shops I need to wear a 10 or 12 or even an 8 to get a good fit lol.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 14/05/2021 16:25

I find people say "I'm a size whatever " as almost an aspect of their identity! Its a very strange thing! Someone said "I'm a size 12 but I can't find any jeans or trousers that are comfortable any more, I have to wear dresses these days" the other day - obviously she had just put a bit of weight on and needed to try the next size up ConfusedGrin

As others say the same women can be 3 different sizes in different shops depending on whether they "come up small/ big/ true to size" but also whether that shop tends to cater to her body type.

Women are one of three or four basic shapes but with a lot of variety within that, and additionally have different fat to muscle ratios and different skeletons (rib cage and pelvis especially...) as well as a good 30cm/ foot height range, so its utterly meaningless trying to link a weight or BMI to a clothing size in a given shop!

Lovemusic33 · 14/05/2021 16:27

Size 12, 5ft3 and around 10 stone.

People carry weight in different places, breast size can make someone heavier too.

Bathshebahardy · 14/05/2021 16:31

5ft 3in, 9 stone 2 lb, BMI 22.5, size 14. Most people my weight are in a smaller size but I don't have much muscle bulk so probably have too much fat round the middle.

YessicaHaircut · 14/05/2021 16:32

I’m 5ft 3, 10st 11lb and BMI 26.7 according to NHS calculator. Size 14 bottom and 12 on top. Still trying to drop a bit of baby weight so hoping to get below 10st. Sizing varies loads between shops but generally find Seasalt, Tu, Next and New Look pretty generous.
