Restaurant suggestions

Booked a weekend in London which dp has paid for and I want to book a good restaurant for one night - not a chain we can find at home. Any suggestions in the west end/wc1 area? Budget £100 excluding wine

... although having said that their current menu is a lot cheaper

I like Brasserie Max, just off seven dials. Very relaxed.

Hawks moor is good.

I know a French one, very rustic, simple menu. With an integral wine shop through which you can buy the bottle to compliment your food. Small and ambient - its in Moxon Street, but I can’t remember its name.

I went to go to Fishworks for lunch last week and it's closed... absolutely gutted and do hope it opens again.

It's great, another great Fish one is Kensington Place.

Mon Plaisir is a French classic

Assuming it will still be open of course.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 11/05/2021 18:35

Is the French one La Boudin Blanc? I used to love that place but not been for years. Their steak and Roquefort was amazing.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 11/05/2021 18:36

@Barbitchurate sadly Kensington Place closer for good a while ago, even before lockdown I think.

MyOctopusFeature · 11/05/2021 20:25

@SmidgenofaPigeon

No, it is Le Vieux Comptoir. Do not be put off by what appears to be a simple menu. Less is definitely more. It is farmhouse style and a relaxed style. Almost next door is La Fromagerie, which just has to be visited for some produce to take home.

I know you said no Indian, but if that doesn’t rule out Sri Lankan, Hoppers is fantastic. I’ve only been to the King’s Cross branch but they’re also in Soho and Marylebone.

A few more for you to Google (sorry if I am repeating any) - these are worth travelling for IMO:
Nopi
Rovi
Lyle's
Honey & Co
40 Maltby Street
Brat
Climpson's Arch
Ombra
Smoking Goat

Xiaoxiong · 11/05/2021 21:38

Oh and one more: Pollen Street Social in Mayfair.

I would also recommend Orasay on Kensington Park Road but that really is a bit of a trek, unless you fancy exploring Portobello Road!

AngeloMysterioso · 11/05/2021 21:39

Spring at Somerset House
Rules
Clos Maggiore

IveNameChangedAgain2020 · 11/05/2021 22:15

All really good suggestions.

I'd add Coya or Lima (Coya my favourite out of the two) both Peruvian restaurants.

BBR is also my favourite. Ditto pollen street social.

Still thinking about this thread Grin
Moro (and Morito)
Quality Chop House

I have just looked on Hot Dinners and there are a lot of restaurants whose names I don't recognise! I do wonder how many delayed new openings there are going to be after all these months of pandemic. A lot of restaurants never got to reopen after the October lockdown as London went pretty much straight into Tier 3.
