Does anyone use them? I work long hours and am fed up of having to stop after work for fresh stuff and then buy far too much and get home later. What experiences have you had?

I use it a couple of times a month.
Great for milk, toilet roll, got some really nice kitchen roll too.
The eco laundry liquid is on offer, was £5.49 now only £2 so got a few bottles of that.

eddiemairswife · 01/05/2021 22:06

I've used them for years, but had no deliveries last week; no explanations. Will see what happens on Monday.

claireb7rg · 01/05/2021 22:11

I've been using them about a month and love it, ours arrives around 3 in the morning according to our ring doorbell.

Always fresh, no issues, loving the glass bottles and the milk tastes nicer than supermarket milk.

Lovingspring · 01/05/2021 22:15

I have used them about 7 years. Very good, easy to cancel on holidays, adjust order, reliable.

CornishTiger · 01/05/2021 22:17

I use a local Independent milkman. Does your area have one.

MoveOnTheCards · 01/05/2021 22:19

The buggers kept waking our entire street at 2am with deliveries that generally involved clattering and smashing bottles and shouting to each other. Thank fuck the neighbour using them stopped!

alexdgr8 · 01/05/2021 22:25

there are often other milk delivery rounds.
some of them you just have to look out for, or ask neighbours.
i literally chased after one once, i said he wasn't on the website to find local deliveries. he just laughed and said he was too busy for that.
he's been v good. a quite local small business, he offered to fetch anything from up the long road for disabled neighbour.

MusicMenu · 01/05/2021 22:25

I love it. I'd prefer a proper local milkman but there isn't one. You have to make sure you use the milk before or very soon after the next delivery, it doesn't keep as long as supermarket milk, but it's wonderful to be able to realise you're low on bread/eggs/butter/apples late in the evening and have it arrive on your doorstep next morning. It is expensive but you're paying for the convenience. I also like being able to reduce plastic.

Mine arrives before 4am! DS brings it in when he gets in from his late shift.

Lou573 · 01/05/2021 22:32

It’s very good and pretty reliable. Obviously great using glass bottles. BUT it’s 4x as expensive as Tesco. I didn’t mind that for a few pints a week but now I have 2 kids getting through literally pints a day I couldn’t justify what worked out to be over £100 a month we were spending on Milk and more.

LER83 · 01/05/2021 22:32

I switched from a local milk delivery service to milk and more at the start of the year as they do oat milk in the glass bottles, which is really nice! Have had no problems with them, they seem to come anytime between 2am and 5am. A little bit noisy, but have to listen to nextdoor screech at his dogs 24/7 so its payback! Really handy being able to add bread and stuff last minute. I also get their orange juice in glass.

Timeisavirtue · 01/05/2021 22:36

I used them years ago and then stopped because it wasn’t financially convenient. Now I’m in a better place we order £6 worth of milk and juices once a week. Roughly around 5/6 bottles. Been using them again for around 8 weeks and today is the first time milkman didn’t come before 7 but I think that was due to a serious accident on a road nearby.

APurpleSquirrel · 01/05/2021 22:44

We've been using them since the beginning of last year (prior to L1). Apart from the odd hiccup, with milk arriving late or not having something we've ordered they've been great. We have milk three times a week. It's always been fresh but does go off quicker so you need to work out your needs & adjust your ordering. We've occasionally ordered extras (bacon, eggs, OJ) but they're very expensive so only if desperate or want a treat.

Talipesmum · 01/05/2021 23:24

We’ve been using them for a year. Three milk deliveries a week, and we get two boxes of eggs on Mondays. It arrives very early, we never hear them. We have to remember to get it in quickly in the summer, as our cool crate thing only fits 4 bottles so some are out in the open, but the milk has never gone off. It was so convenient during lockdown to be able to get groceries easily, and we keep it now for the glass bottle recycling.

JamieFraserskiltspeaksout · 02/05/2021 08:16

Thanks for sharing. I have put in a one off order for Wednesday morning - 2 pints milk, 1 pint orange juice and and 1 pint chocolate milkshake. Oh and some of their milk bottle reusable tops.

If we like it - I will get the title cool box or bag and make it a 2 x per week thing. By Wednesday I will have forgotten this and will no doubt run out the door ad kick everything everywhere!

Maybe supermarket click and collect might work for you?

Supermarket range and prices plus you don't need to go in the supermarket if the temptation of things you want to avoid buying is too much?

You are thinking too sensibly for me barbaraofseville .... That's my plan for the weekends sorted now though!!

Make sure they deliver at a time that is suitable. In my road the milkman only comes twice a week and it’s late morning so milk would sit on doorstep in full sun until I get home from work - yogurt anyone?

I would love to use the milkman but we get through three + pints per day so delivery twice a week even if it was before work wouldn’t really work for me.

Years ago our milkman came everyday except weekends and the milk was on my doorstep at 5.30 am. Fantastic and I’d happily pay more for that service.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 02/05/2021 11:54

We’ve used them ever since they took over from whoever else it was.

I find it very convenient - can order extra things or cancel the day before.

There’s a lot of stuff besides milk - the other day I ordered 2 big bags of potting compost. More expensive than Asda but they’re so heavy, I couldn’t face lugging them in and out of the car.

We have FR eggs and fresh orange juice delivered weekly, too.

Everything’s that bit more expensive, but to me it’s worth it for the sheer convenience.
They do plastic bottles, too, but I’m glad to say that all our milk comes in glass that goes back on the doorstep to be re used.

JamieFraserskiltspeaksout · 09/05/2021 22:32

Well I have had milk and more now three times. I have ordered a couple of milkshakes (divine!), The orange juice -also good- and lots of milk. My next delivery is trying a vanilla yoghurt and I have ordered the milk holder. I plan to try the pints of oat milk next! The delivery comes around 4.30am and it's still exciting to find milk left on the doorstop in proper bottles like in the 80s. I love it!

I like the oat milk - maybe not quite as good as Oatly Barista in coffee, but it rarely curdles and I’m happy not filling up my recycling box with Oatly cartons. It does need an upside down twizzle or two before you open it though, as otherwise it’s a bit watery at the top and sludgy at the bottom.
