Recommend a car?

It has to be...

Higher than an average saloon as DH can't get out of them

Space for the occasional trip with 2 adults and a tween in the back (no car seat) - usual trips will be and adult and the child in the back

Manual

Potentially to fit a fold up wheelchair in the boot (I'm looking into the future here so it's not essential but would save changing the car again)

That's about it! Currently driving a VW Sharan which is too big for our family now, although it does tick all the boxes it's knocking on a bit so before it starts to cost more money I think downsizing is the best bet.

Weve just reserved a Dacia sandero stepway... Never been keen on the idea of a Dacia, but the 2021 stepway looks brilliant. Similar height of a small SUV/crossover, but much more compact, and even the top of the range spec is under £15,000 brand new! Obviously can't give much of an opinion on drive etc as haven't received it yet, but definitely worth a look op, we were shocked with how much you get for your money compared to other similar size cars. Also love the look of Toyota ch-r but no idea what they're like, they just look really nice!

Also Renault Captur could be a good option. We currently have a Kadjar and gave loved having it, but it is big, and like you, too big for our needs now. The Captur is very similar to the Kadjar just scaled down.

Skoda Karoq. It’s built on the T Roc platform, but much less pricey.

Jeep Renegade. Adore it

VW Tiguan T roc or T cross in descending size order
Same 3 options on Skoda or Seat platforms - Skoda gets my vote for value
Honda CRV
Audi Q2 or 3
Peugeot 5008 or 3008 again in descending size order
