Will I regret downsizing from superking bed

Mybigbed · 26/04/2021 15:05

We’ve had a superking bed for 12 years now and I love the fact that DH and I have so much space!

But I don’t love changing the sheets and would like a bit more space in the bedroom.

Kids are pre teens now but still sneak in during night or in morning occasionally and it’s nice to be able to sit in there together and watch a film or something.

But the base is falling apart and we need to replace it and have thought about swapping it for a king size.

Any experiences?

Yes I did it and I regret it 100%

DinosaurDiana · 28/04/2021 12:27

Don’t do it - there is no going back !!!

DungeonKeeper · 28/04/2021 12:27

Don’t do it! What are you thinking! Calm down, have a cup of tea and think about what you’ve just said. 😂

And I have no problem making the bed myself.

reluctantbrit · 28/04/2021 12:35

No way I would change from a super king.

We have separate mattresses (DH loves to sleep quite firm) and two single duvet. Makes changing easier and no battle of the duvets in the middle of the night.

Mybigbed · 28/04/2021 14:16

Ok fairly unanimous Grin We’ll replace it with another superking.
Next question-do we replace the mattress (which seems just as wonderful as the day we bought it) or not.
I’d definitely stick with the same make as it’s fab.
Changing the bedding is better now we have deeper sheets-it’s mainly the duvet cover. And also that the pillows never look right. We’ve tried the longer ones but they are a bit crap to actually sleep on. Do we need cushions to fill in the gaps?

Don't do it!!

DinosaurDiana · 28/04/2021 14:48

I just put our pillows in the middle. I don’t t feel the need to fill it.

RandomMess · 28/04/2021 15:15

Just have a single duvet each, it's heaven! No woken up with the draft or having it whipped off you.

Goingtogetflamed · 28/04/2021 19:09

What about the big square pillows? I have some for our super king. They look great because they’re a bit more substantial but get taken off for sleeping so don’t knees changing as often Smile

BendingSpoons · 28/04/2021 19:15

We have two single duvets. Much easier to change and we have different thicknesses.

ButterflyBitch · 28/04/2021 19:18

We’ve got a super king and there’s no way id downsize unless Dh was not in my bed anymore. I can’t cope with anyone near me in bed and quite frankly sometimes the super king isn’t big enough when he’s snoring. Don’t do it.

ButterflyBitch · 28/04/2021 19:19

Thread moved on... ignore me Grin

Reinventinganna · 28/04/2021 19:20

It would mean divorce in our house. I only like him when we can sleep far apart.
We had a holiday in a beautiful hotel but with a double bed. I felt like Dh was sleeping up my nose.

LadyofMisrule · 28/04/2021 20:27

We went from a superking to a standard double. I hated the big bed. It was like sleeping alone!

lachy · 28/04/2021 21:46

I've recently put my foot down and categorically stated that we ARE having a super king sized bed.

I will not negotiate on this. At all.

Bed has been ordered 😉

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 28/04/2021 22:30

We are going up to a superking from a double. It's arriving mid May and I cannot wait! We've also bought a superking duck and down duvet.

It'll be a mad scramble between me, DH, DD (3) and 2 cats to get in it first but there'll be room for all Grin

Mosaic123 · 28/04/2021 22:34

Google Coverless Duvets. John Lewis do some. No cover to change. You just put the whole thing in the wash.

I love my husband. But I also love sleeping alone. He got kicked out into the spare room last night. Blush I think I was wriggling around too much.

These replies are hilarious. Op you've reached a pinnacle and you want to go back? What is this madness. I used to joke to my partner picking up the phone and saying 'is that a taxi, yes I'd like one to other side of the bed please'. You basically own an island Grin.

Mybigbed · 29/04/2021 06:39

I have enjoyed these replies a lot!

I like the sound of coverless duvets but I can’t imagine being able to get a superking one in the wash.

Right-I’ve decided my issue is mainly aesthetic-much as I love the size it’s a big ugly heap of bed.
It’s a divan so useful for storage but I think we could cope without.

So does anyone have a link to a more attractive one they’d recommend?

I don’t want something too low to the ground and need a headboard we can sit comfortably against (yes I’m aware these requirements make me sound 80!)

OP posts:
redcandlelight · 29/04/2021 06:43

no.
for easier changing (and better sleep) consider single duvets and separate matresses.

choppolata · 29/04/2021 06:46

They are a bugger to clean under! Mine has lots of legs underneath so not even much use for storing things under. Great sanctuary for dust bunnies though Wink

choppolata · 29/04/2021 06:48

Whoops posted too soon. Check what the legs are like before you buy, there will probably be more than you think.

Quincie · 29/04/2021 06:50

We have a sheet, a duvet, then a bedspread. Get the duvet cleaned twice a year. No duvet cover to wrestle with.
