Help with dress!!

Hi all

My mum is getting married in 2 weeks, and hasn't found a dress. She's a bit at her wits end and I feel like I spend every spare moment helping her.

Please help! There are several pre requisites below - all must be met or she poo poos them!

 • size 22
 • must be maxi / floor length
 • must have full length / at least 3/4 length sleeves
 • burgundy / maroon / dark red in colour
 • no splits up the side
 • budget up to £250
 • can be velvet, satin, whatever fabric but should look as dressy as possible
 • sequins are fine but she'd prefer no bows.

Please help. I will send many, many good vibes and also the winner will get a gift (if they're happy to dm me their address!!)

Happy hunting.......

Thanks in advance!! Smile

Ooh, sorry - seen that this is too dear for the budget.
@Bythehairywartsonmywitchychin hi, I have read the reviews and the majority of people are saying it comes up a size big, which is why I still posted it. E.g. 14s are wearing 12s, which suggests 20 may well be closer to a 22.
Sorry, I didn’t read the reviews (which I usually do).

@fairlyurgentdresshelpneeded perhaps look for dresses from size 20, this may open up more options for your mum as some dresses as gracefull has found come up big.

gracefull · 16/04/2021 23:58

@Bythehairywartsonmywitchychin no it’s my bad, I should’ve put that in my post xx

Oops just seen someone's already picked out the same ones from John Lewis as I did! Great minds!

fairlyurgentdresshelpneeded · 17/04/2021 08:22

Thanks so much everyone, I really appreciate it! We have found that Everpretty is really poor quality, I like the studio 8 ones and have sent everything through to my mum!!

The Phase 8 dress with built in cape is gorgeous.

DownWhichOfLate · 19/04/2021 08:53

Has she found a dress now?

fairlyurgentdresshelpneeded · 19/04/2021 13:14

So she's ordered a couple but isn't thrilled with them.... I'm going to work through the list above and send through to her shortly!

I wish she was ready to give a little!! She has the round neck Gina Bacconi red maxi that someone upthread mentioned today, she refuses to send a pic of her in it as she hates it. I may bow out soon and leave her to It!!!

I like the Monsoon one wanderedasacloyd suggested - elbow length sleeves but meets all the other criteria and the quality of the dress will be reliable www.monsoonlondon.com/de/florence-embellished-flutter-sleeve-maxi-dress-red-84228009.html?dwvar_84228009_color=RED&quantity=1

guessmyageplease · 19/04/2021 13:30

Does she actually want to get married? Is she using the "I can't find a dress" as an excuse not to?

fairlyurgentdresshelpneeded · 19/04/2021 22:34

We have a winning dress! Did anyone get this one? She likes it and looks lovely in it! The sleeves are more puffy on the model, it looks much nicer on!

And yes, she very much wants to get married.

Thanks so much everyone!

That dress is lovely. I hope you all have a fantastic wedding day Smile. Now, do you have something to wear...? Grin

steppemum · 19/04/2021 22:52

the velvet JL dress isin a different league to most of the others. It is seriously glamorous. It is also a shape which will look good on a larger figure (like me)

The sleeves are pretty long, definite;y 3/4.
Could you persuade her to try it? To order it and see?

steppemum · 19/04/2021 22:53

Oh missed your update.
Lovely

fairlyurgentdresshelpneeded · 20/04/2021 06:39

I am sorted - just need to decide on shoes! Thank you all so much, I totally agree the Gina Baccini dress on JL.com would've been perfect, but never mind, at least there's a dress now! Wine

@fairlyurgentdresshelpneeded

The Ever pretty one looks gorgeous - she ordered 4 from there last week and the quality of them all is really, really poor which is a shame but they do look too good to be true I suppose!
I was just about to warn you of the quality. Fine if it's black and it's an evening event but any other colour and it tends to look cheap sadly as their pics are always gorgeous!
