Weighted Blankets

Does anyone have one? Are they any good. Menopause has given me anxiety and sleepless nights - would a weighted blanket help?

I had a very bad few nights recently (massive work stress) and I borrowed my son's weighted blanket. Got to say it made a real difference even at only 5kg. I would recommend trying, absolutely.

I’ve got one. It’s made a massive difference to me. I ordered it in desperation in the middle of yet of another sleepless night. I’m menopausal and have neuropathic pain in my legs so was waking up between 2 and 3 am regardless of what time I went to bed. The first night I slept with it, I got about 9 hours. I wouldn’t be without it now, although DH hates it.

This is mine

After much research I purchased a Koala one which has beads stitched into separate squares so they don’t all bunch into the bottom. Comes with a cover which has a bamboo side and much cooler. I purchased mine due to fibromyalgia and restless legs and I love it. My grandson has Aspergers and also now has one.

I have this one, I spent ages trying to find one and this ticked all the boxes. It comes with a warm fleecy cover and a cool summer cover, I've not uses that yet but it feels lovely. The blanket isn't noisy and I find the weight extremely comforting. We have a super king bed and I use this blanket and my hubby uses the duvet, having two blankets on the bed doesn't cause any issues at all, if anything we both sleep better. I highly recommend one.

@Elisheva

My Ds has this one www.onlinehomeshop.com/brentfords-weighted-blanket-quilted-silver-grey I was very impressed with the quality, and as it’s only £20 you could try and see if it works for you.
Thank you for all your replies - I am going to try this one - have bought the 6kg one.

They are awful, pin you down and make you sweat. Not the lovely warm engulfing hug they are marketed as, more pinned down flat unable to move sensation. I think investing in a decent duvet would have been a better idea.

I got one of the suggested weight for me, and I'm very heavy and so the blanket is, too, but I've found before that only very intense pressure is soothing for me. Any lighter and I can't imagine it having any relaxing effect. But unfortunately the weight means if I sleep under it I wake up with sore joints. And I'm a fidgeter so find it frustrating to lie under. Not the most successful experiment. DP likes it, though :-/

LordEmsworth · 15/04/2021 08:23

I have a Mela, I love it. Before, it would take me at least an hour to fall asleep; now it's a few minutes. I still wake up in the night but can fall back to sleep quickly instead of lying there worrying about not sleeping. Definitely recommend...

Thewinterofdiscontent · 15/04/2021 08:58

I bought these at Christmas and they have gone down well.

I’m stuck on a weight for a skinny 13 year old girl. 4kg too light or 6kg too heavy?

Totally love it. I don't know if it will make me too hot in summer, but it is washable so my intention is to just use it alone, or maybe with a duvet cover on, if I'm sweltering under it and a duvet. To be honest though it doesn't really seem to add warmth at the moment. My last family I nannied for, the accommodation was a shepherds hut and freezing in the early hours, and it didn't seem to help at all! The weighed down feeling is great and my sleep is massively improved. Massively. The main downside for me is it does sometimes slip off in the night and then I subconsciously notice the difference and have to semi wake to pull it on again, and it feels very heavy pulling it up off the floor.

pinkcattydude · 16/04/2021 20:04

I purchased for the weight I should be not the weight I am and I love it, I sleep so much better. Mines bamboo and I used it all over the summer. Never too hot.

kaleishorrid · 16/04/2021 20:28

My blanket has arrived. DD and I sat on the sofa with it watching tv - it was bliss. I can't wait to try it in bed. Also it didn't make us hot so I am hopeful.

Thanks for all your replies everyone
