Birthday ideas for my 16-year-old niece

I was going to buy her some high top trainers from kokoart.co.uk/ but DB (her dad) thinks they'll be too jazzy for her and I should go for something much plainer. Budget is up to £50 or at a push £60.

Her parents are divorced and she lives between two homes so she already has quite a lot of stuff but I'd prefer to avoid vouchers because they feel a bit boring and thoughtless and she's so lovely I'd like to get her something she will really love.

Any ideas much appreciated

@katy1213 I'd so love to take her shopping but she's a long way away and we haven't seen her for a year due to lockdown. Really hoping she'll come and stay with us for a while over the summer if it's allowed by then

@emmathedilemma yeah, I guess you're right. My DD who is 13 loved them and thought DN would too but I guess there's a big difference between 13 and 16!

@deathbyprocrastination

Other option would be to give her a piece of jewellery that I was given by my parents (her grandparents) when I was a bit older than her. It's a really nice simple silver pendant that I'd have loved at her age but bearing in mind what others have said about letting teens choose for themselves it probably isn't the right thing.
Etsy has some nice necklaces, I recently bought my Niece one for her 18th. I was advised that initial necklaces are popular at the moment? She seemed thrilled with it anyway! I chose one with two tiny discs with her initials stamped on it. I'll see if I can find a pic!

This kind of thing, I can't seem to find the exact one though. Cost about £35 and you can get earrings to match

It's hard to choose specific stuff when individual style varies so much. My dd wouldn't wear hi tops like that and is very grateful for vouchers and cash as she can buy what she wants throughout the year. She wouldn't see it as thoughtless - she'll be relieved that you're not choosing what you think is cool.

My dd is currently going through a phase of buying stuff for her room as well as clothes so you'd get brownie points for picking vouchers that would allow her to choose either.
Her Dad bought her an electric aromatherapy oil diffuser for Xmas which went down well.
