Hello Fresh

Well my goodness

What a revelation. Found it so motivating that all I needed to do was pull out a bag and follow a recipe. Its making me cook again

What are peoples thoughts on this? Is it in the long term expensive (I have a discount code for now) and did you manage to keep it up?

It really helps on busy weeks, just not having to think what to cook.
Have a box now and again. Simply cook works well too, recipes, stock and spices/sauces which we keep in the cupboard until we need inspiration and buy the fresh ingredients.

@BlueSkyBlinking

I found the quality of Hello Fresh started out great but steadily deteriorated. Missing ingredients, mouldy veg, meat at the end of its life. Was just too much trouble in the end because I ended up having to get fresh ingredients as well as the delivery.
This happened to us too. Missed delivery 3 out of the last 8 weeks. Moved to Riverford now.
TenaciousOnePointOne · 02/04/2021 16:53
@TenaciousOnePointOne yes I just looked at Gousto and ordered a box. The recipes look similar but the app looks more straightforward. Have you had any delivery issues?
Not many. We’ve had one thing missing recently but that’s out of all of the boxes this year.

orchidsonabudget · 02/04/2021 16:59

I would love to try these but we are a family of 6 and none of them seem to cater for this many - am I wrong?

Rosehassometoes · 02/04/2021 20:57

We had Gousto meatloaf and potatoes tonight and there was enough for 5 of us.
Could easily have added extra veg to pad it out.
We had crab linguine the night before- it would have been harder to stretch but a baguette/salad would have worked well alongside.
Tomorrow it’s chicken breasts- 4 between the 5 of us- guess would depend upon whether your children could share.

We had a Hello Fresh pasta dish last week and it would easily have done 6. It also has really nice ciabatta as an add on. Hello Fresh seems to be a bit more expensive though.

This code gives 50% of a first Gousto box and 30% for the rest of the month.
You can then pause the weeks you don’t fancy it or just cancel. You don’t have to do the full month either. I did 3 out of 4 discounted weeks when I was given a code.

Baker90 · 02/04/2021 21:11

I've tried both hello fresh and gousto and have to admit prefer goustos food as well as their customer service. Hello fresh was diabolical and took money from my bank, then were saying I still owed for that box, and had no record of taking the payment. It took me several days and sending proof of the transactions etc to get my money back. This was after previously 2 people using my code (1 I completed the order for them setting up an account for them) and never getting the credits too. I wrote that off as ah well its a nice gesture, but the 2nd lot of aggravation and lack of help from CS has put me off completely.

Oh this thread took off!

I am into my second HF week now. Still really enjoying it and definitely making my DS eat much more adventurous meals.

I have paused HF after the next week box and signed up to Gousto with a discount code.

Ds and I use recipe boxes (dh and dd are both picky eaters so dh cooks separately for them).

Gousto recipes are slightly better but I found the portion sizes too small for teenage ds. He often ate the entire meal and I had to make something else!! I started buying more protein to add, but having to run to the shops kind of defeated the object. HF portions are much better and we have used these on and off for a year. It’s great as ds takes his turn cooking and he really seems to enjoy it. It’s worked well for us.

theshadeofgreen · 06/04/2021 17:22

We switch between Gousto and HF and can't choose a favourite!

There's £20 off the first HF box with this code if anyone can make use of it

HS-DDO4F09AJ

We have a pasta dish from HF tonight Grin
Must admit, if we really enjoy a recipe i tend to buy bottles and jars of the unusual ingredients and make my own version.

theshadeofgreen · 06/04/2021 17:29

Reading this prompted me to
Log back into Gousto too, so I have a code from them for 50% off the first box if anyone wants it!

FlippinFedUp21 · 12/05/2021 17:50

We got a code through the door for 60% off. For 3 x meals for 3 people it's £15.99 with free delivery. Normally it's more like £41 with delivery on top. I'm expecting delivery tomorrow so I'm very intrigued but there's no way I'd pay the full price. Worth it for the discounted offer though.

pinkchampagne1 · 12/05/2021 17:59

If anyone fancies trying Gousto I have a code for 60% off your first box and 30% off any ordered in the next month. They usually offer 50% off first box for friend referrals but for next week or so they have upped it to 60%. Code is: cook.gousto.co.uk/raf?promo_code=NICOL274409&utm_source=iosapp
We have tried both Hello Fresh snd Gousto. I prefer Gousto for variety and I like the fact you can order a one off box and then pause your subscription. I found HF a hassle as you have to keep remembering to skip weeks if you don’t want a box every week

dueindecember10 · 13/05/2021 07:14

I am a massive Gousto fan and it has really helped during lockdown. I buy a box for 2 people but it easily stretches further.

If anyone fancies 60% off this is my referral code.

cook.gousto.co.uk/raf?promo_code=CLARE11831100&utm_source=iosapp

I feel cheeky sharing it but someone used it when I posted it before and didn't tell me they had and it was a lovely surprise that they had.

BroomHandledMouser · 13/05/2021 07:25

I love Hello Fresh!

I had a delivery on Tuesday, we normally do three meals a week but only if I have a discount code!

It makes life so so much easier, we’re all out the house with work and school so to have something already sorted is a life saver - just wish is wasn’t so expensive without the discount

Pancakeorcrepe · 13/05/2021 07:29

I am on week three of Hello Fresh and really happy I’m giving it a go. It won’t be for all the time but it is nice to experiment with different recipes. Like a previous poster, I also look up and buy the more unusual spices to use later.

purplebagladylovesgin · 13/05/2021 07:58

We loved HF. It made me cook things I'd otherwise not try. Two of the recipes we had are now permanently in my meal rotation.

I discovered that Bolognese is greatly improved with copious amounts of cheese.
And that I can turn leftover roast pork into HF rice bowl really easily.

The boxes also really helped my son gain extra confidence to cook. He's excelled at cooking and it's a pleasure to see. He subscribed during his first year at university, he loved having everything arrive and not having to worry about having all the ingredients in his cupboards. He could also freeze half so a box did twice as long.

Custardslice3 · 13/05/2021 08:02

I've not tried Hello Fresh or Gousto as they are a bit beyond my budget at the moment, but I have been really enjoying trying some different dishes using the SimplyCook spice packs and recipes. It's just me and DS, but I follow the recipe for 4, and it usually does 3-4 meals for us both (we eat it twice one week, and I freeze 1 or 2 portions). DS6 has loved trying some different dishes and I've enjoyed trying new recipes without having to buy all the different spices etc that I might only use once. I also like that they give suggestions for swapping ingredients out to suit your preferences. If anyone wants to try them I can pm a code that gets you a free first box! (And gets me a free box too Grin)

mygrandchildrenrock · 13/05/2021 15:58

@Londonista123

Gousto code for 50% off first box and 30% off first month.
Thank you very much, have just placed my first order using this code!
pinkchampagne1 · 13/05/2021 16:37

For the next 5 days you get 60% off your first Gousto order and 30% off for the rest of the month if anyone fancies giving them a try. You can just order a one off box with the code and then pause your subscription if you don’t want a box every week. My code is: cook.gousto.co.uk/raf?promo_code=NICOL274409&utm_source=iosapp
