Help! How to unwedge stuck drinking glasses!

Wigeon · 27/03/2021 20:13

So these two glasses are totally wedged together. We’ve tried:

Pulling them really hard

Tapping them on the counter to see if that dislodges them

Putting washing up liquid in the gap

Putting them in boiling water

Putting them in cold water

Nope, still stuck fast. Any other genius ideas?!

@Bargebill19

Talk loudly about throwing them in the bin. Usually does the trick with anything showing reluctance to work in our household!
They’ve been stuck for a week and DH has been threatening them that they’re for the bin, and even put them in the bin behind my back!! But I fished them out again. I will not be defeated!

dry them off, hold the bottom one and give strong but gentle knock to the top one against the kitchen counter or similar surface. turn it a little after each knock and it will dislodge it

i work in a pub and this happens all the time! patience is key for doing this though

Hold the bottom glass with your thumb near to the rim of the stuck glass, put your index finger inside the glass and push towards your thumb with a bit of pressure. Then rotate till you’ve gone around the glass if it doesn’t work first time

You have to twist them in opposite directions and wiggle. I'm always getting glasses stuck and DP gets his knickers in a right twist but I normally pull them apart reasonably quickly with the above.

Firm banging happening now...I figure if they break I’m not any worse off than before...

I can’t believe MN have let a photo of a fish slice stand. Surely that’s an outright ban?

I had this happen. Two glasses stuck one on top of the other for months. Tried washing up liquid and brute force to no avail. One cold day they just came apart with hardly any effort, so maybe put them in the fridge?

Wigeon · 27/03/2021 21:05

YES!!! They’re free! The “bash them on a hard surface and rotate them and bash them a bit more” finally did it. Probably aided by the ice/hot water/WD40.

Thank you thank you thank you! DH was genuinely impressed.

Wigeon has gone very quiet. Are you okay Wigeon?

@incandescentglow - ⭐️ for you!

Now remember OP to never stack them together again. In fact, it might be better if they each had their own cupboard, just in case.

Wigeon · 27/03/2021 21:08

@DateStamp Remarkably, the fish slice and lube wasn’t needed!

Haggisfish · 27/03/2021 21:18

Don’t stack them while warm out of the dish washer. Or bowls (bitter voice of experience).

SergeiL · 27/03/2021 21:33

Am I the only one wishing this had gone on a bit longer???
