Tell me about your perfect BBQ menu

If we are allowed to socialise in gardens soon, I foresee a fair few small-scale BBQs over the coming weeks (possibly wet and chilly ones!).
Inspire me - What would you serve (or want to be served) at a small, rule-of-6-compliant BBQ?
In the olden days we didn’t have BBQs very often so tended to go with the basic sausages and burgers, but now probably want more variety - and something a bit more special.

Ooo some seasoned chicken too

Sprockerdilerock · 23/03/2021 17:59

Chorizo, pepper and halloumi skewers
Potato salad
Burgers but with a tonne of options for extras such as sauces, chutneys, different cheeses, bacon, fried onions etc.

Christ I'm hungry now.

Lamb chops - cut the medallion of meat off the bone and smear on a bit of garlic purée and a sprinkle of rosemary.

Chicken mini fillets - marinated in sesame oil and soy sauce.

King prawns - buy frozen raw. Marinated in garlic purée, butter, fresh red chilli and fresh coriander.

Halloumi slice - no need for anything fancy.

Red pepper - cut in half, lightly oil and chuck on.

Courgette - slice 1cm thick, lightly oil and chuck on.

Corn on the cob - lightly oil and chuck on.

Tomato salad with fresh basil and fresh mozzarella.

Coleslaw - M&S deli style.

Enjoy!

Forgot to say - I buy those foil trays with slits on the bottom to do the prawns. You could do the chicken mini fillets on this too. Our BBQ had a skillet so I do them on that as they'd fall through the grills.

At a bbq I always enjoy:
Marinated skewers (vegetable ones or prawns with vegetables)
Really nice sausages
Chorizo burgers
Ribs
Some sort of marinated pork (Chinese etc)

Missing the point of the thread, but if you are only 2 households, you can have as many people as you want in your garden!

AudTheDeepMinded · 23/03/2021 18:59

Boerewors

Also, as a veggie, the veggie stuff cooked away from the dripping, spitting meat please.

RumJerrySailorRum · 23/03/2021 19:02

But, back to the point

Our bbqs consist of the following:
Good quality thin sausages
'Different' burgers, e.g. lamb
Maŕinated chicken pieces
Prawns
Halloumi
Feta
Pineapple

Then, decent bread cakes from our local bakery, potato salad, coleslaw, salad

And booze, lots of it usually !!

PissTestRightNowDaniella · 23/03/2021 19:14

Halloumi kebabs, lots of different salads but not too many 'leafy' ones.

Xiaoxiong · 23/03/2021 19:16

I'm making dinner on Monday night for friends in the garden!! Counting the minutes!

Full menu will be lamb shawarma (2kg leg of lamb) from the Ottolenghi Jerusalem cookbook, eaten with pita bread, chopped salad, tahini sauce, yoghurt and pickled veg which I need to make sometime this week with all the wrinkly sad veg at the bottom of the fridge. We'll have kir royales to start and probably something hot for dessert to warm up, maybe apple crumble. We'll have a firepit and everyone will come in thermals!

Superstardjs · 23/03/2021 19:23

I don't like barbecues, so no food for me thank you, but I would like a proper glass glass for my wine and a blanket for when I invariably freeze.

Practicalprat · 23/03/2021 19:37

Me too,can’t stand BBQ s

AtleastitsnotMonday · 23/03/2021 19:44

Tuna steaks marinated in balsamic, well seasoned with cracked black pepper and rock salt. Cooked on the bbq, served with a green salad and apple slaw. Simple but perfect!

Ginspiration · 23/03/2021 20:46

Pork belly and pineapple salsa tacos!
