Just heard Killing Me Softly, which I sat at a Christmas party listening to after being dumped by guy I thought was the love of my life he wasn't. Over 20 years ago but still makes me wince inside with pain.

You?

When I grow up from Mathilda, especially when the Mathilda's sing it with Tim Minchin.

It reminds me of happy holidays to NYC with DH and DS which we will never, ever get to do again.

Back To Life by Soul II Soul

I was dating a man whom I knew was too old and simply wrong for me but he was my ticket away from my home life.

I ended up marrying him at age 19 and moving hundreds of miles away from home. I became pregnant very quickly and as soon as our son was born, I filed for divorce. I was 22.

This was the big song of 1989 when this all happened. I wish I had never married the guy and every time I hear it, I feel sad.

Sunshine on Leith, played at a friend's wedding and then her funeral after v sudden death. Also played at another friend's funeral about a year later. Just thinking about it makes me tear up.

Woman. Makes me extremely distressed and has brought on a panic attack before. Brings back horrible memories of a very unhappy time in my life. It had come on in a shop or a cab radio and I get an overwhelming feeling of panic.

George Michael’s Careless Whisper.

I’d come home from school for my lunch in September 1984 (a lot of us did back then) and was listening to the radio in my room when the phone rang. It was my Mom, she’d been called out of work “as there was a bit of trouble”, that was how she put it, at my Grandad’s and she needed my Dad’s work phone number. She wouldn’t elaborate on what had happened.

My gut feeling was that he’d died. I returned to my room just as Careless Whisper started playing and I sobbed and sobbed.
I got home from school at 4pm and I was told that it appeared he’d had a heart attack in the night and died, a neighbour noticed his curtains were drawn, got no answer at the door and called the police.

I’m sorry for all the people who’ve suffered tragic losses on this thread.

Mine isn’t a personal one, but every time I hear Istanbul (Not Constantinople) by They Might Be Giants, I think of Caroline Flack Charlestoning her heart out with a huge grin, having the time of her life.
