Sudden worry about post partum bleeding

My wife gave birth 8 weeks ago via C-section and is still experiencing heavy bleeding. It was lighter after some weeks but now again heavier and doesn't seem to show any sign of stopping. She spoke to GP at 6 week check-up but GP wasn't concerned at all and said it takes a while for bleeding to settle. However, my wife has suddenly become very anxious about it, especially because it seems it is getting increasingly heavier. Next check up will be in a week's time, I don't think she can live with the anxiety until then and I also feel if she thinks this isn't right then chances are it indeed isn't. Does someone have experince with whether this sounds normal? Googling suggests bleeding should stop after 6 weeks which it clearly hasn't. Thank you!

Same happening here, GP suggesting it is period returning. I am hoping 111 will also suggest A&E and she will then accept she needs to go in. I think she is most afraid of having to stay in hospital, would that be part of the having retained products removed or is this all outpatient stuff?

When I had the D&C after DC1 it was a day procedure. I was there mid morning. DH and DC1 were allowed to be there (not Covid times) and I was allowed to breast feed her just prior to going down to theatre. I was back within an hour. And home a couple of hours later. Was told to rest for 24 hrs due to GA but DH only had day or procedure and day after off work. They said continue to breastfeed as I would have had less drugs for the short GA than if I had had a section.

My blood flow varied like your DW’s. Some days a lot, some say a little, it really did vary. But not filling anywhere near a pad an hour and with DC1 I had no other symptoms.

Hope you get to the bottom of it.

It really really does sound like an infection. Your poor wife for being so scared to go back. Can you call 111 together? They will tell her to go and A&E and it might be the push she needs.

Hey OP

I had a Csection in 2018, bleeding didn't fully stop till 22 weeks pp. There was no reason, nothing retained, no infection. Was just put down to being 'one of the unlucky ones'.

You've got great advice so far, my only other thought - what has her activity level been like?

I was doing what I thought was a normal amount of light walking after DD1, and I ended up having heavy blood flow return again and again that seemed to be connected to days when I had been walking more. A couple times I ended pretty much crashing in bed more from that than anything else. No other reason could be found and I was advised to essentially lower my activity level for a while, it seemed like my body was struggling to heal more the second time around. I was essentially on bed rest for some weeks before it sorted itself out. So, if after getting checked everything by a medical professional and if there isn't anything more concerning, that would be my next thought.

Hi everyone, believe it or not, the bleeding suddenly stopped! A few days ago, and then today she had her GP check up and seems all is good. I am still a bit nervous to believe this is the end of it, unfortunately things keep cropping up healthwise for her but in any case we are happy she is feeling well.
Thank you everyone for your supportive and informative comments!
