Bit scared by What's App message I received

It's from a number I don't know, profile pic I don't recognise of just a man's face and says

"Thanks you for a card"

Then a message with the mobile number that has sent the message.

I blocked the number and didn't think much of it earlier as busy but since had a missed call from the number, (I didn't realise) and then picked up a call just now as expecting an important call which could have come from a mobile number. There was a delay and then the voice said "hello" and I realised which number it was so hung up and blocked.

It definitely feels like something dodgy and not just mistaken identity, I'm used to the odd spam call or text and don't think anything of it but this one has really weirded me out for some reason - has anyone had the same?

Someone rang me and left a voicemail on my phone last year about their holiday.

Complete voicemail and I rang her back as she's elderly and explained. She was so apologetic but I said to be because she'd obviously misdialled but she'd written it down wrong so I googled the right number and sent her a text with it.

I’m so entertained by the plumber story and also the person protecting a random marriage by pretending to be the long lost affair partner 😂

itsgettingwierd · 17/03/2021 20:15

@skeggycaggy

Did you know numbers get reassigned too? I messaged an old boyfriend to say sorry his dad had passed away, & it’s no longer his number. I knew he had lived overseas for a few years so presumably gave up his U.K. contract then, & got a new number when he got back. So some random bloke got my heartfelt message about my ex’s dad Blush
Yes my ds number is reused.

He gets frequent messages about oracles being delivered and from Barclays. He's just told to delete them because whoever not actually is should have updated their records 🤷‍♀️

I think during lockdown I’d actually really welcome being added to a random WhatsApp group, I bet that’s why the plumber never said anything 😂

Love the plumber story Grin

I get calls most weekends to my work phone which I switch off when I'm not at work. It's an old lady who leaves a message for her friend. The first few times I rang her back to say I'm sorry but you've got the wrong number. She really didn't believe me though and said "But I always ring Jean on this number". It's been my number for over a decade!

Text him back to say you have the wrong number and put him out of his misery

Years ago I went into work on a monday and was told I had a message from some guy who called work on the sat as I had met him friday and gave him my number, he asked for me by name , I was a bit embarrassed at first and thought why did I give out my work number , then it dawned on me I hadn't even gone out on friday night I was home
I never returned the call and they never called back and Im sure the guys at work thought I was lying , as he asked for me by name and said I had told him the company I worked for
No one else had the same name at work - it was very weird

MyOtherProfile · 19/03/2021 07:46

@donewithitalltodayandxmas I reckon someone met him, didn't want to see him again so gave a false name... Some "friend" of yours maybe?

Next time @itsgettingwierd let them deliver an oracle it could come in very useful GrinGrin
