Just did it as you made me curious! Actually quite pleasantly surprised. Didn't think people would like my name much (my username is a clue) but lots of suggestions for it.

TweeterandtheMonkeyman · 07/03/2021 11:13

Ha ha! I’m going to do it now!

LagneyandCasey · 07/03/2021 11:24

I was surprised to see my name there. It's quite unusual nowadays. I was at school in the 80s with loads of Karens, Claires, Sarahs and Paulas and I was quite conscious of my name then but have made my peace with it now. It's a main character's name in a novel so whenever anyone hears my name they think of that character.

Longdistance · 07/03/2021 11:26

Mine comes up often. It has become a popular name over the last few years.

DriftGames · 07/03/2021 11:27

I absolutely hate my name, always have. However, the baby name board seem to love it! Which is news to me, as I've never had a compliment on it and I'm 26.. it's known but uncommon. I've come across two others in my life.

MellieNelba · 07/03/2021 11:31

My real name has an unusual spelling - was the bane of my life when I was younger. I may have gone on the baby section and said I was thinking of using it just to see whether it had gained in popularity. Apart from being told it was old fashioned, horrendous and ugly sounding that it was the worst name that been mentioned it was also pretentious and dull. I think the name will die out with me - my friends call me by my more common nickname.

IslaRoseGraceEtc · 07/03/2021 11:32

No but I have now!

"It's lovely and everyone can say it easily"

Ime about 90% of people need it explaining and 10% never get it right!

Poppins2016 · 07/03/2021 11:35

My name seems to be rated highly as a much loved classic, but I have to admit I don't like it as much as Mumsnetters do!

I use a nickname (derived from my full name) day to day and have flirted with the idea of changing it, but I don't hate it enough/can't decide on an alternative that I love enough!

spiderlight · 07/03/2021 11:45

Mine is universally regarded as a middle name, should have an 'e' on the end and has been likened to 'Ethel' and 'Thora'. Much as I'd expected, really!!

Borntohula · 07/03/2021 11:48

Very interesting

Have you ever looked up your RL name in the 'baby name' board?
VioletCharlotte · 07/03/2021 11:49

Just looked mine up and was very surprised to see it described as lovely, very pretty, unusual nowadays and a classic. It's a name that was very popular in the 70's, there were 6 of us in my class at primary school! I've always thought of it as a very boring name.

IAcceptCookies · 07/03/2021 11:50

I haven’t looked it up, as such, but it has been mentioned a few times.
There have been one or two threads over the past couple of years saying “I think Cookies deserves a comeback, don’t you?”, and suchlike.

The responses have generally been a resounding “No” 😄

Wesaed · 07/03/2021 11:52

Ha! I just did. Apparently my name is "a bit country bumpkin", "twee and ditsy", "I don't know why anyone would consider it for their daughter?", "It makes me think of a slightly ditzy, other-enthusiastic, tall woman", "not very feminine", "it has a kind of 50s kitsch chic, if that is a thing", "it just sounds childish". "old fashioned and frumpy", "reminds me of Karen".

That's me properly told now!

GreenBalaclava · 07/03/2021 11:54

My name is well thought of on MN! It doesn't come up often (uncommon when I was a child, and still outside the top 100 now), but when it does people tend to be complimentary about it Smile

PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears · 07/03/2021 11:55

The baby name board loves my name. I'm always really surprised and really chuffed. In fact, I'm feeling a bit poo today, so I'm going to pop over there and cheer myself up!

AllMyPrettyOnes · 07/03/2021 11:58

My name came up once, and was pretty much slated. It's unique (in this country more so) and unisex, so that's a sin on MN. Thankfully, I couldn't give a toss. I bloody love my name, and even have random people in real life compliment me on it.

PPNC · 07/03/2021 11:59

Haha I just did and mine is very elegant apparently Grin

AvonCallingBarksdale · 07/03/2021 12:01

I love my name - it’s generally talked about favourably on MN. Interestingly it’s often suggested as a name alongside my DD’s name on MN Smile.

Evaevap · 07/03/2021 12:01

Mine (not really Eva) is apparently a bit granny-ish but also too cutesy for an adult. Not sure how you can be both!

UserZ · 07/03/2021 12:01

I've always hated my name. It's single syllable, an emotion and is the opposite of my nature, which is governed by a PD. It seems to be more popular now than even when I was born in the 60s. It's often mentioned as a suggestion on MN.

You can probably guess what it is, which is why I've NC Wink

JackieweaverhasALLtheauthority · 07/03/2021 12:01

Lots of people suggesting it for a middle name but nobody actually choosing it.
Good. Its an awful name- a bloody burden.

I have only ever met a couple of others.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 07/03/2021 12:02

Ooh I see it was described as “wet” by some posters. Bloody cheek Grin

JackieweaverhasALLtheauthority · 07/03/2021 12:03

@UserZ....me too! It is bloody awful isn't it???

UpDownQuark · 07/03/2021 12:04

Vanessa?
ZackaryQuack · 07/03/2021 12:05

I've just done it. Not sure if I'm happy or sad haha
My name was described as:
Sweet to blah, with everything in-between 🤣
I don't have a popular name for babies/children these days however, extremely popular from the 80s and 90s when I was born lol
