@Silurian It's far worse! At least it isn't Breda though, I am thankful for that Grin

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 07/03/2021 23:36

webuilt ‘here in Surrey’ and ‘lack of snobbishness’ - not sure I have ever seen that juxtaposition before ! 😂 Surrey native before anyone thinks otherwise 🤣

Oh, I know - all of my friends suffer terribly from the snobs, but because my own name is so classic and there are thousands of us here, we've completely risen above that Grin

ive never seen my name come up and searching for it just now ont he baby names topic didnt show any results. it is unusual and ive never met another person with my name

SinisterBumFacedCat · 08/03/2021 00:10

Apparently mine is very pretty and due a comeback, however that is mainly due to threads from 3 years ago, so unfortunately the comeback didn’t happen. Grin

Unfortunately my lovely Irish name is rarely pronounced correctly out of Ireland and was ruined by both pronunciation and stereotype of a character in a well known programme.
I've no doubt it'll come back in time but our until that particular character can no longer be remembered.
Actually it's the only Irish name I know that was relatively common outside Ireland and mispronounced widespread outside of Ireland to the point its normal.

micc · 08/03/2021 00:28

Mine also comes up often. Its very popular now.

My daughters names get absolute torn apart though ahaha brutal

BigGreen · 08/03/2021 07:37

My name is loved but both my kids names are "wet" Grin

Anycrispsleft · 08/03/2021 08:13

Ahahaha no. My name is one of those ones people cite as a cautionary tale against picking a name that is popular now but will date really badly.. I doubt there was a single child named my name this year. Maybe in about 10-20 years it will start to sound charmingly old fashioned Confused

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 08/03/2021 08:14

I haven't but my name came up in a thread recently and was described as horrible, dated and old fashioned! It's not a very common name, has been around for a long time and in a secondary school of 1200 there were three of us when I was at school.

I really like my own name, but bloody hell!

HelloCanYouHearMe · 08/03/2021 08:42

The general concensus is that my name has a beautiful meaning, but sounds drab, drippy and dull and is a bit 80s chav.

Which sounds spot on

I hate my name

frogswimming · 08/03/2021 08:45

My name is a mumsnet favourite. Traditional but unusual, would work in any walk of life, literary but cool etc. I've never been that keen on it though. Maybe it's a lot to live up too!!!!

Disfordarkchocolate · 08/03/2021 08:47

Mine came up recently and was surprisingly popular. I have only ever met two others with my name so thought it wasn't liked much.

noblegreenk · 08/03/2021 08:55

I haven't specifically looked it up but I've seen threads on it. It's a very 70s/80s name and was really popular when I was at school in the nineties. People on the name board seem to either love it or hate it. But it seems to be gaining popularity. I've always quite liked it but just wish it wasn't such a popular name for people of my age. I'd have liked something a bit more unusual. It's the name of a song which my mum loved when she was in her teens, and she always said if she had a daughter she use the name.

I'm intrigued now. Does it begin with a J ?

badlydrawnbear · 08/03/2021 09:18

I haven't specifically looked it up, but I browse through the Baby Names board sometimes even though I am not going to be naming any more babies. I have a very unusual name and have only ever met one other person with it. I also don't have the most common spelling of the very unusual name. However, my name with the more usual spelling is suggested fairly often and gets positive responses when people ask for ideas on the Baby Names topic, so maybe there will be more babies with my name (though I do realise that suggestions on MN Baby Names board are not very representative of baby naming trends in the general population)

JimmyJabs · 08/03/2021 09:25

I hate mine and MN generally seems to agree. If it's mentioned at all, it's usually deemed to be too 70s, inelegant, and not due a comeback for at least another 20 years.

My middle name, on the other hand, is much more popular because it's one of those early 20th century granny names (indeed, it was my granny's name) that are now fashionable again. I still can't stand it!

JimmyJabs · 08/03/2021 09:39

I just did a proper search, and my name is overwhelmingly suggested as a middle name, or "A name that is like Jane but not Jane". Make of that what you will!

happymummy12345 · 09/03/2021 17:17

No because I have a hyphenated first name and I know they are hated on here anyway (for no reason it seems, I don't understand the strong dislike of it on here, it's a bit rude tbh)

35andThriving · 09/03/2021 21:34

I have. People mostly liked it. It isn't used much for babies now.

Jambalaya76 · 09/03/2021 21:53

Where is the baby name board?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 10/03/2021 07:45

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/baby_names

If you click on Talk at the top of Active Conversations or Threads I'm On, you'll get a complete list of all the boards. There are dozens of them. AIBU and Chat get most traffic, but there are plenty of others with regular posts.

FlyingByTheSeatof · 10/03/2021 07:55

Most seem to like my slightly unusul name so I'll take that.

Jambalaya76 · 10/03/2021 21:28

So how do you find your name?

TurquoiseDragon · 10/03/2021 21:34

I had another look at the comments relating to my name on the baby name generator. And as I''ve mentioned before, my name is very unusual.

I'm pretty sure that someone who knows me has made comments there, as the comments are very me, and so are the associated nicknames, of which one is not one you would normally associate with the name......

Nothing nasty, but hello if you've recognised me Grin

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 11/03/2021 14:18

I'd never looked at the baby name generator before! Somewhere else to waste time Hmm. www.mumsnet.com/baby-name-generator
