kind of wish i hadn't Grin

Mine is alternately "sweet, refreshing, unusual for babies these days" and "dull, an awful sound, a fat girl's name Hmm, too dated".

Waxonwaxoff0 · 07/03/2021 14:06

Mine is either loved or hated. I've seen it described as "twee" on here. It's an old name, wasn't particularly popular when I was at school but it's made a comeback.

BearSoFair · 07/03/2021 14:08

I just have. People think it's ok but prefer a shortened version. I truly hate the shortening they mention and use a different one! Few say it doesn't seem to work for children, more the over 30s but that's definitely me so can't complain Grin

Crankley · 07/03/2021 14:19

I was born in the 40s. They hate my name and are confident it will never become popular again, unlike a lot of the granny names even older than mine that are now being used.

caoraich · 07/03/2021 14:31

My name is apparently awful and dated and also people got into a fierce argument on how to pronounce the different spellings.
Oh dear, wish I hadn't done that. Ah well I like my name and no one has ever mispronounced it in actual real life Grin

EssentialHummus · 07/03/2021 14:35

Mine is routinely included on lists of names that will never make a comeback. Whoops. MN seems to like DD's name at least, so there's that.

SionnachRua · 07/03/2021 14:41

Oh it depends. People either think it's pretty or the thread is full of Little Englanders wailing about how 'unpronounceable' it is. Hun, if you can handle a Penelope, Beatrice or Hermione - which they invariably fawn over - you'll learn to say a bog standard Irish name. You're not that thick.

user2021 · 07/03/2021 14:58

Wish I hadn't Confused

My name has very mixed reviews!

EvilOnion · 07/03/2021 15:06

Mine is universally loathed, I've been on here since 2008 and I think I've seen it on the name boards once.

I'm not particularly keen myself but it's far better than some of the atrocities suggested regularly on here!

ItsALovelyDayToday · 07/03/2021 15:13

Apparently my name is “chavvy” among other lovely descriptors. But I’ve literally never met anyone else with my first name so maybe all the other are “chavs” 🙄

Roasteros · 07/03/2021 15:22

My name is, apparently, lovely and easy to say, but the apparent "correct" way of saying it is not how it's spelled, or how I pronounce it. It's an unusual name and I love it, never been shortened either!

Capital76 · 07/03/2021 15:28

Both first name and middle name have been called dated. Too 80s.

AfterEightsBeforeEight · 07/03/2021 15:29

Where is it exactly that you're all looking your name up?

ellenpartridge · 07/03/2021 15:40

Mine is seen as a name that is currently out of style and a bit dated but every now and again I see people saying they love it and would like to see it coming back!

Cardboardeaux · 07/03/2021 15:49

My name is always popular on the baby name board as it's a "classic" name but not seen as overused. My DC names get mixed ratings though!

DramaAlpaca · 07/03/2021 15:56

I was pleasantly surprised at the reaction to mine.

One of my boys has a 'naughty boys' name apparently Hmm My youngest son's name has got really popular. It was very unusual when he was born in the late 90s so I was well ahead of the trend.

Oldraver · 07/03/2021 16:02

My name is always on those 60's names that will never be revived lists

Astraturf · 07/03/2021 16:06

Mumsnet hates my name but loves a very similar one Grin

reluctantbrit · 07/03/2021 16:08

I just did. I always knew my name is French but I never realised that it is also Welsh.

Wow.

Meredithgrey1 · 07/03/2021 16:13

I just have. People generally seem to like it but it’s only ever discussed in the slightly more modern spelling, not the older spelling I have. That’s rarely mentioned at all.

PoppityPop · 07/03/2021 16:22

Whenever mine is mentioned on here people always say how awful it is!

Poppins2016 · 07/03/2021 16:44

@AfterEightsBeforeEight a lot of people have probably seen their name mentioned in the baby names board. But if that's not the case for you, it's possible to search for a name and filter by 'topic' (i.e. 'baby names') to see what people have said about it.

babbaloushka · 07/03/2021 16:48

Mine is having a resurgence but it lumped with the cutesy names and often said to be a nickname.

AfterEightsBeforeEight · 07/03/2021 16:51

Just typed mine in. Absolutely nothing. Put forward in two lists as a suggestion. No comment either time.

Don't know how to take that

autumnboys · 07/03/2021 16:51

Mine is used as a verb on MN for ousting a friend from their own friendship group, so it doesn’t get a good review on the baby name board. IRL, I only know a couple of others with it, but we’re all quite fond of it & were memorable among the Clares & Sarahs of our school years.
