@UserZ....me too! It is bloody awful isn't it???
I've always found it a burden.

JustanotherTuesday · 07/03/2021 12:10

I absolutely hate my very old fashioned name, the only other ones with the same name have always been in their seventies or older.
It is always looked upon favourably on MN and described as being a strong name. I still hate it though.

Bettina500 · 07/03/2021 12:14

Yes. It's (not my username) not generally spoken of very highly and usually one of the names that is agreed is dated and won't be making a comeback Grin

PenCreed · 07/03/2021 12:34

Positives, although many people saying it's a bit boring. My favourite is this one:
Tiny, angry, wizened old woman

Something for me to aim for there.

Pepsipepsi · 07/03/2021 12:38

Miner's an uncommon but not unheard of name. Every post is "OK as a shortened version for __, but not a name in itself." But she'll be called the nickname her whole life so why is that acceptable but not as the name on birth certificate?? Confused I hate my name I was picked on and could never answer the "why is that you're name?" questions because of it. Because my mother's an unthoughtful idiot, that's why.

FunnyWonder · 07/03/2021 12:50

I don't need to look mine up as it regularly appears as a name that will NEVER come back. I hate it and don't have a middle name to resort to. It's an Anglicised version of an Irish name and probably from the era of those 'old lady' names currently enjoying a resurgence. I wouldn't inflict it on my worst enemy!!

FedNlanders · 07/03/2021 12:51

Never seen anything bad there about my name.

Fembot123 · 07/03/2021 12:52

Mine is becoming more popular, the male version was more used in the past.

Volcanoexplorer · 07/03/2021 12:58

Mine comes up pretty regularly. I suppose it’s what you’d call a fairly classic name.

Rainbowandscarlett · 07/03/2021 13:21

Mines been called ‘fresh’ ‘pretty’ ‘classic’ and ‘beautiful’
It’s having a bit of a comeback but never really went out of fashion-it’s just not that common

I think it’s very 80’s and I don’t like the nicknames that I’ve spent my life making it clear not to call me by them

I googled my kids names and got ‘beautiful’ ‘classic’ ‘twee’ ‘meh’ ‘not very nice’ and ‘why would you name your child after a murderer?’

Oh well-I like them

Itsjustaride8w737 · 07/03/2021 13:22

Mines dated, boring and 70s, I was born in the 90s 😂

WonkyCactus · 07/03/2021 13:23

Yep, no-one is willing to saddle their kid with it these days! Grin

TweeterandtheMonkeyman · 07/03/2021 13:25

I’ve looked Grin mine is “vile” , “only met right bitches called that” Shock , a dogs name, no one will ever take her seriously with that name , years of playground taunts !!
To be fair there were lots of positive comments too . It is quite unusual !

Mumoftwoinprimary · 07/03/2021 13:26

Mine is “dated” apparently. As am I to be fair.

HeronLanyon · 07/03/2021 13:31

My given name is often described as ‘strong, classic, beautiful’ etc.
Also not overused at all.

Their first thought for my name is described as ‘fussy, complex, snobbish, bit much’ etc.

Thanks mum and dad. Whew !

WalkingMeAway · 07/03/2021 13:32

Oh. Mine is downmarket, trashy, WAG-like and chavvy

So glad I looked it up 😂

M0rT · 07/03/2021 13:32

I have never looked it up but was surprised to see it offered as a suggestion once.
I'm 40 and have never been the only person with my name in school, college, work, even friendship groups.
So I thought it would be too of it's time to be getting suggested until at least another 30 years had passed.
Someone I know did name their now five year old the same as me, not after me, but I was glad knowing me didn't turn her off the name. Smile

DulciUke · 07/03/2021 13:41

Mine is "American " and "not a real Irish name" which, of course, automatically makes it lame and awful.

flappityflippers1 · 07/03/2021 13:45

Ooh I've just looked and apparently it's a 'lovely name', 'suits all ages', 'a classic'

I've always hated my full name, but that's really cheered me up Grin

Ashleys63 · 07/03/2021 13:49

The thing about the baby name board, though, is that 9 out of 10 threads seem to always have people either saying they think it's a pet's name, or attaching some obscure personal connotation to it. I am not sure how helpful it is!

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 07/03/2021 13:52

Mine is both "outdated" and "wonderful" Confused

Difficult to search, however, because the search throws up all the threads on the male version of my name as well and there are HUNDREDS of them...

KindnessCrusader · 07/03/2021 13:55

Yes, people on here really like my name. I never have!

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 07/03/2021 13:57

Ooh I've now found it described as pretty so I feel better.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 07/03/2021 13:59

My name attracts absolutely visceral hatred because I share it with a well-known politician. Fortunately, I'm fairly thick-skinned! Many of those who can look past the politician have it in for the Royal Family, and most of the rest think it's 'an old frumpy lumpy name'. Grin A tiny minority with excellent taste think it's elegant, timeless, a classic name and due a revival. I'm not holding my breath there!
