Hi,

My daughter has just been set this. There are no instructions. Help please....please tell me how you get the answer. (Bonus points if you tell me what she should be learning from this).

Prize is a Salmon en croute with extra boiled potato's.

There aren't instructions because the point is to get them practising the skills they know ( + - x \) in a fun way, re-combining numbers, etc., in a fun way.

(Although that pattern-recognition skill might be useful in an11+ area. Wrong format for 11+, though!)

I guess this is a big problem with out-of-school learning.
It helps if parents/caters know what the purpose of a piece of work is whether it's to find an actual, correct solution, for example, or whether it's something like this (where you're trying to make essentially repetitive tasks fun). However, explaining that the point of this exercise is to get children practicing the 4 operations (with a bit of pattern recognition thrown in,) slightly let's the cat out of the bag and probably undermines the point of the exercise.
