All guardians of toddlers welcome, we offer ideas, activities, and a shoulder to lean on when it all gets too much. We’ve conquered winter, next stop spring!

@Chocolatetrifle

Good morning hope everyone has a decent day.

Got the sofa cushions out on the floor and ball pit balls, tunnel and sensory scarves out for a living room adventure playground but 3 year old is trying out swear words on repeat so feel like a failure already.

Need to get a grip.

If it makes you feel any better my friend is a vicar with the most well mannered polite family ever, and one morning his daughter said her first properly constructed sentence, declaring 'daddy this toast is SHITE!!' He was so proud of her making a proper sentence but couldn't boast to his congregation because then they would know he has a potty mouth! GrinGrin

DD says Coco when cocomelon comes on, no parenting awards for me. She can also say snack....

Same4Walls · 19/02/2021 08:57

@Same4Walls you are my type of parent!

Awwww you're gonna make me blush. GrinBlush

I had such high expectations of myself when pregnant and then DS actually arrived... He is quite possibly the most frustrating little toad on the planet. He had colic, cmpa, refused naps, still hates the sling and screams so often I'm sure I'm now partially deaf. If I found something that got me even 2 minutes break from him being a pain in the butt I used it. I look on in envy of those who had blissful first borns and secretly hope they have a second born even half as challenging. Grin

My DDs favourite words! She asks for a snack about 80 times a day, usually starting from 30 mins after breakfast. She goes to her cupboard and picks out a bowl and screams 'NACK'. And cocomelon is "melon". Mr tumble is "boon" with the mr tumble sign, for some odd reason.

Ds can say approximately 10 words one of which is Duggee.... Blush

Jeez we're all having some hell of a week aren't we! My day has not started well...went to bed about half 8/9 last night feeling shattered and extremely pregnant and fed up. Left DH to tidy up the house which he assured me he would do...turns out instead he stayed up until half 1 fixing his bikes in the dining room, making more mess and leaving tools out everywhere (mountain bike fanatic). And then didn't tidy the rest of the house at all. So this morning we have dirty dishes and bibs lying all over the place and the lounge is like a bombsite. Actually so done already and it's only 9am.

MonkeyPuddle · 19/02/2021 09:17

@drumst1ck that would make me rage, you must have been so pissed off. Channel those hormones into revenge I say.

@Same4Walls my first born was a delight as a baby, napped, took bottles, slept through the night early, DD is a no sleep reflux machine who likes to make me cry 😂

DS who is 4 in June always points out the ‘dinner shop’ every time we drive past a McDonald’s....

I’ve got to go to Asda today, need to time it with her falling asleep so I can eat a fry’s peppermint cream in the car in silence.

DayBath · 19/02/2021 09:19

Hi @ClaraLana, I'm also trying to diet so I can't bake with my DS but he loves to whisk scrambled egg and add in chopped tomatoes and cheese for his lunch. Maybe you could cook something savoury that would leave leftovers to avoid temptation? Chopping sausages into beans is a good one, using scissors makes it a bit safer.

DayBath · 19/02/2021 09:22

*wouldn't leave leftovers I mean!

Same4Walls · 19/02/2021 09:24

drumst1ck if he were my 'D' H he'd be under a patio for that sort of behaviour. I'm happy to provide an alibi if you need one. Wink

Yeah I think I must have skipped the fabled first born and been given a second born instead. Grin He honestly cried so often as a newborn when he stopped I sometimes didn't register and I could still hear it, it was like a soundtrack constantly on a loop in my head.

drumst1ck · 19/02/2021 09:25

@MonkeyPuddle he's already grovelling hahah. He knows he messed up so I'm expecting a lovely weekend where he gives me lots of naps and does all the housework. I'm beginning to lost my ankles now so the 'need to rest my legs' excuse will be used a lot Grin

drumst1ck · 19/02/2021 09:28

DD was a horror at night (wouldn't be put down at all, up every hour or so) until about 11 months then just completely switched. She's now an angel and sleeps 12 hours every night. Wondering what I'm going to get with the next one! I'm expecting the sling to get a LOT of use

OhToBeASeahorse · 19/02/2021 09:34

@MonkeyPuddle ah I'm sorry - my 2nd is refluxy too and the dr wont give me anything because he says it's normal. Are you feeding and going dairy free?

Our one succees this week was a tea making station. Gave him some different flavour tea bagsz a little kettle with water a teaspoon and some mugs. Kept him busy for an hour and a half!

porcelinaofthevastoceanss · 19/02/2021 10:39

Absolutely hit a wall with parenting and have literally nothing good or positive to say so will bow out. Good luck to you ladies and roll on spring in March!

MonkeyPuddle · 19/02/2021 10:56

@porcelinaofthevastoceanss ah love, come tell us the negative, use us to vent, no judgment here.

@OhToBeASeahorse I’ve got her on omeprazole now and it’s working with the refluxing but she’s been referred into paeds as she’s losing weight, still breastfeeding but I don’t think It’s an allergy as she has no other symptoms other than just puking all the time, before the omeprazole you could see she was in pain and her vomit smelled like pure acid, but it’s improving.
Doctors don’t like medication ‘uncomplicated’ reflux but there are national guidelines and recommendations that they should be following so it’s worth a google to see if you need to get a bit pushier with your GP.

@Same4Walls if you have another then you’ll have the dream baby! That’s how it happens right?! Can’t have a little ratbag after a little ratbag?

@drumst1ck he best bloody give you the weekend of your dreams after that!

I cleaned the bathroom at 5am this morning (don’t ask, couldn’t get back to sleep) and DP has left it full of skid marks. Fuming. He was given very short shrift. And he cleaned it. He wouldn’t leave his office toilet in a mess for a colleague so why is it ok for me?

TwirpingBird · 19/02/2021 11:26

My DD wanted her ball pit. She was asking for it all morning. I got it out. She was really happy. I put them in a big box (we dont actually have a pit). I then had the idea that she could scoop them with a sieve. The minute I produced the sieve she threw herself on the floor screaming blue murder and thrashing. No idea why. She normally loves scooping things. I have told her she has 2 choices; scream and I take them away, or stop screaming and she can have the balls, and she doesnt have to scoop them if she doesnt want to. She is now lying on the floor making whimpering sounds, but not screaming, but also not playing with the balls.

I don't get it.

Same4Walls · 19/02/2021 11:39

I'd love to think this was true but we're 14 months down the line and I honesty still don't think I dare risk it... What if the next ones even worse!!! Grin

@porcelinaofthevastoceanss oh lovely we've all been there. Venting on here or to my friend is often the only reason I've managed to refrain from gleefully throwing the small toad into the bin on bin day!

Lostthetastefordahlias · 19/02/2021 11:44

Ah @porcelinaofthevastoceanss I was wondering how you are doing, are you still shielding? Sorry to hear you are feeling rubbish, it is so hard isn’t it - hope you can get a break today.

That’s a good plan, thank you! Might get her to make me an omelette or some savoury muffins!
ClaraLane · 19/02/2021 12:08

We’ve already watched Frozen, done both crafts in the ToucanBox that arrived this morning and have done copious amounts of sticking and colouring. We’re now watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse while DS sleeps on me and I count down to DH coming downstairs for his lunchbreak. Tomorrow my parents are coming over to take both children out for a walk so we can start emptying the garage as we’re meant to be moving before the stamp duty deadline 😭

Hyppogriff · 19/02/2021 13:02

Ah this group makes me feel better with the solidarity!! I’m celebrating a tiny victory right now - both toddler and baby are asleep at the same time and after the toddler has not had a lunch time nap for 2 weeks!!!! Regrouping and trying to plan for this afternoon’s antics ... roll on Friday wine o clock!! What time is that again ?!!

Chocolatetrifle · 19/02/2021 13:29

@DayBathSmile that does make me feel a lot better, thank you for the story. Why do they hear something once, not hear it for ages, store it up in ther minds and then keep them coming out one after another, a waterfall of offensive words! Hardly any swearing in this house by the way, but once heard it seems never forgotten Blush.

When does the 'threenager 'behaviour improve? Is it when they hit 4 years old, does anyone know?

@Hyppogriff, fantastic, get your feet up quickly before one wakes!

@TwirpingBird, must be something about ball pit balls today see earlier message. Let's just put them away.

Plan for the afternoon, release small people into the garden...

Same4Walls · 19/02/2021 13:37

Arrrgh I was feeling all smug that the small toad was napping because all was quiet... Oh how naive of me the little wotsit has infact been gleefully keeping himself busy by pulling off half the wall sticker mural on the wall next to his cot. Angry

Anyone want to rehome 'D' S I'll even throw in a bag of jellybeans and half a large dairy milk bar?

Can I just rehome the chocolate?
Hyppogriff · 19/02/2021 14:08

Haha DS has taken ALL the wallpaper off the wall at his grandmother’s house next to his cot !
