Pointless - just me?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 09/02/2021 17:51

Since Lockdown first got started, I've fallen into the habit of watching Pointless as often as I can. I love it. (I've come to the conclusion I'd have a good chance of doing well in the early rounds, but would probably come a cropper in the last round, as most of the contestants do.)

Anyway, the point that occurs to me more and more often now is how blindingly obvious it is that all the shows currently being broadcast were filmed before Lockdown last year. Sad

'What do you do?'
'I work in a theatre, doing the lighting.'
'How lovely, what an interesting job!'
[Yes, but this last year you must have been on your uppers! is my reaction to that.Sad ]

'What will do you when you retire later this year?'
'Well, we expect to be seeing a lot of our families, who live 200 miles away...'
[Nope, only over a screen Sad ]

'What would you do with the jackpot if you won?'
'I've got a special birthday coming up this year, so we are planning to have a huge family reunion and a once in a lifetime trip ...'
[Gutted for you that all your plans will have come to nothing, likely as not. Sad ]

Just me?

Also, how long before we move over to the episodes they filmed in the autumn of 2020?

I've managed to restrain myself for five weeks. Tonight a man said 'If II win the jackpot, I'd go on a wine tour.' No, mate, no. If you'd won, you'd have been going nowhere.

A whole year! I know they've recorded some new episodes. When will we see them?

You can tell what year it was recorded from the very last bit of the credits. Used to be Roman numerals, so MMIXX would still be 2019. Wider spacing, Perspex dividing screens will tell you that they were recorded more recently.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 24/03/2021 20:29

Have there been any recorded last autumn? I haven't seen any with screens yet.

I've seen a couple of the Celebrity editions with screens but none of the everyday ones yet.

@TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross

I'd be dreadful at any sport round except for tennis.

And I'm terrible at flags.

Richard Osman's House of Games has kept us sane during lockdown.

We've just got into House of Games and love it, much more than Pointless which I really enjoy as well. Just more gentle camaraderie between the celebs.

I love that the celeb version of Pointless is Pointless Celebrities Grin

TheLumpySofaCushion · 24/03/2021 20:56

I used to enjoy watching Pointless, then I went to an industry awards event at the end of 2019... really excited that Alexander Armstrong was hosting.

He came out on stage, and his opening 'joke' was...."What has 100 legs and no pubes?..... The front row of a Justin Bieber concert"..

🤢🤢🤢🤢😡😡😡

PandaFluff · 24/03/2021 20:56

I saw the celeb one with screens the other day. But yes I keep thinking they must be repeats!

PapaSierra · 24/03/2021 21:06

I was on it too! Agree with @HeyJackKerouac , Richard was quite aloof and standoffish. We won the trophy and jackpot on Halle Berry films. Made a right tit of myself when they asked what I'd do if I won and I said 'Deposit on a house, a new car, we'd love to go to Australia' before remembering the jackpot was a whopping.....1k.
In my defence, it was the same day as someone had just won the biggest jackpot of 75k so I had that in my head!

@TheLumpySofaCushion did he actually say that??? That's fucking disgusting. Envy

TheLumpySofaCushion · 24/03/2021 21:20

@PapaSierra

He really did.

It was a Financial Services industry awards dinner. Very much old boys school but only 2 or 3 years ago.

Absolutely disgusting perve.

CovidCorvid · 24/03/2021 21:23

I prefer The Chase. They’ve definitely shown some shows which were filmed in covid times n....all Perspex screens and social distancing.

But seem to be back to pre covid episodes now, though oddly they don’t seem to be repeats. 🤷‍♀️ Maybe they’re lateral flow testing everyone now and have done away with social distancing?

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 24/03/2021 21:29

@HeyJackKerouac

I've been on pointless. Loved it. Got the trophy and won the jackpot too. Go for it!
@HeyJackKerouacwere you also on Michael Ball ON the Ball quiz??? you and your sister?

I have applied twice and been called to audition twice, but not been able to make it as it's always such sort notice "can you be in Glasgow tomorrow at nine?" ...errrr it's half two now so probably not tbh!

But i do love it!

The ones on atm are repeats....I watch them all incessantly. I am in love with Richard, he is going on My List.

PapaSierra · 24/03/2021 21:34

@LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow Alexander was on my list but after @TheLumpySofaCushion revelation he's been struck off.

TheLumpySofaCushion · 24/03/2021 21:39

Sorry, @PapaSierra ☹️

So fucking disappointing.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 24/03/2021 21:44

@PapaSierra I don't mind Alexander...I imagine him to be as he is ALL THE TIME a bit showy offy and full of himself and feel for his poor wife who probably wants the dishwasher stacked and is getting competitive anecdotes and humorous puns instead :o

Corcory · 24/03/2021 21:49

I know what you mean about them still showing pre pandemic shows. My cousin was on Eggheads and it was over 2 years before his episode was aired.

OrangeBananaFish · 24/03/2021 21:50

I thought they were repeats now. They don't have Dara on do they and Jenny has her old hair I believe.

I agree with PP's it is sad when you see an episode of a quiz filmed late 2019/early 2020 and they have plans with the money to travel etc.

CovidCorvid · 24/03/2021 21:52

Maybe they are repeats with The Chase then, hadn’t notice Jenny’s hair. Will have to see if The Beast looks slim or not so slim! 😆

Cookerhood · 24/03/2021 21:57

I think Richard tweeted about them filming new episodes earlier this year. I too smirk when they talk about going on holidays with their winnings. Sorry love, you're going nowhere until about 2022!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 25/03/2021 08:14

I saw a funny Tweet yesterday, which was along the lines of:

Doctor Who: I'll take you back to 2022.

Passenger: But I came from 2019!

Doctor Who: I know. I'm taking you back to 2022.

JaquelineBeanstalk · 25/03/2021 17:35

Another factor is whether it’s a rollover jackpot (pointless, eggheads), or whether each show earns its own pot of money on that day ( tipping point, chase). The first lot obviously have to be shown in sequence, if it’s a standalone prize pot then They can be shown in any order, repeats and all. I have a theory that the Friday Chase is usually a winning team.

simonisnotme · 25/03/2021 18:38

if ever there was an apt program title its
'pointless celebrities' they all are !!

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 25/03/2021 19:15

@CovidCorvid they’re definitely repeats, Bradley looks significantly younger! Think they’re showing season 10 at the mo.

I want to like Pointless but I feel like it could be about half an hour shorter – whenever AA says “let me just read those again” I want to scream! And all that effort for half of a grand. Hardly seems worth it!

Well done. I think I remember that Halle Berry episode.

Not me on the Michael Ball thing but I do love that. Got a bit of a thing for Michael Ball but a friend met him through a work thing and said he was a bit of a Diva. Disappointing

I wouldn't go on The Chase. Seems like a lot of questions to answer to most likely go home with nothing. Beat the Chasers looks like it might be fun to go on g though. My son applied for that but hasn't heard anything.
