Suggest me a hobby?

I need a hobby. Something for myself all I do is cook and clean and manage the housework. I'm going slightly crazy with nothing else to do.

I'm not massively crafty but am open to any suggestions. I can knit but i struggle to find the patience to actually finish anything.

I'm in the same position. Looking for a new hobby, but with no large initial outlay. Watching the thread with interest.

yoga is good as it keeps/makes you flexible as you grow older and the breathing is good for relaxation. Adrienne posts loads of videos to show you how

IthinkIm · 07/02/2021 15:42

I've been googling silver clay but can't find where to buy, any ideas anyone?

Or other jewellery making ideas.

Last couple of weekends I started sorting out all the memorabilia (crap) I have collected when we’ve been somewhere interesting on holiday.

Yesterday I finished my first scrapbook! It was good fun but now I’ve fallen down a bit of a Washi tape and backing paper hole on Etsy!!

I have combined it with using one of the free photo printing apps so it’s part photo album part scrapbook.

I make cakes, the last few I have made, I have ordered a glittery personalised cake topper and they make such a difference. So I have bought myself a second hand Cricut machine and now I can design and make my own. Its addictive, as there's so much other stuff you can do with it!

I've just ordered a crochet set. Looks pretty easy and relaxing. I wanted to try arm knitting but the yarn is very expensive.

I have made a decorative garden scarecrow, of all things, recently. Stole the idea off pinterest, and vey much enjoyed it, , I also have stencils that l buy online and paint onto wooden p!agues, flower pots etc, it's very easy to do.
Maybe you could learn to play an instrument, make your own aromatherapy oils, redecorate a room ?
Or if none of those appeal have a regular pamper evening, nice bit of self care, bubble bath, candals, oils, skin care hair care, music on, listen to some meditations on youtube, so relaxing.

I have started to strip the wallpaper off in my lounge! I'm so pleased I started this thread I now have other things to think of during lockdown.

My hobby is writing. Sorry, I haven't read the whole thread but if somebody hasn't already suggested it, you could head over to the creative writing forum on mumsnet.

Join a book club - most still meet by zoom
Podcasts are great - you can listen while you strip your wallpaper
I love to cook and aim to try one new recipe a week. But also spend lots of time reading recipes online and in cookbooks

alwaysbethepigeon · 07/02/2021 19:10

I do cook a lot and have been trying out new recipes. I'm dieting so have been trying to find new meals that aren't caloric but nice!

My dsis bought me a colouring book for Christmas and I've loved it, get totally absorbed. Bought myself some felt tips that I've hidden from dc!

Love knitting and crochet but lots of unfinished projects because I cba to do the sewing up at the end..

Jigsaws too. Also broke out the acrylic paints kit I bought years ago, used it to make birthday cards for the parental.

Basically anything that's not desperately complicated but requires complete concentration for the time you're doing it, so even if I can't physically get away from where I am I can mentally.

DipSwimSwoosh · 07/02/2021 23:50

Oh if I had time I would

  • learn the piano
  • learn about classical music
  • walk more
  • run more
  • swim more
  • sing more
  • write poetry and a blog
  • paint
  • do pilates
  • learn Italian
  • travel by train
  • take a degree in translation/ history/ French poetry
  • take a pottery course
  • learn to surf
  • read classic literature
  • cycle
  • birdwatch
  • geocache
Instead I work, do housework, occasionally swim, run or sing, watch crap on tv and repeat.
OhioOhioOhio · 07/02/2021 23:51

Sorry to gatecrash but if you crochet what do you make that isn't tat?

englishroseamongstirishthorns · 08/02/2021 03:43

I enjoy flower arranging when husband buys me some, and embroidery. I love to sew little cushion covers for my home and my husband is always very complimentary.

I also enjoy jigsaw puzzles. You can have them made of your own photos now, which is delightful.

All sorts there are some lovely things to crochet that aren't tat nowadays!

Blankets and toys so far. Currently making Batman for dc2, then dh has requested some fingerless guitar playing gloves, then I'm going to do a wrap/shawl for myself. You might think of it as tat, but as I'm not intending to give it to you frankly I don't care!
SBAM · 08/02/2021 09:02

I tried decoupage recently to upcycle a photo frame that had got scratched, less than £10 for the glue and paper and brush and I quite enjoyed it and I’ve now got another few plain white old frames that I’m going to do to match my kids rooms.

hennybeans · 08/02/2021 09:07

@OhioOhioOhio I'm crocheting a Missoni inspired blanket at the moment. Just a simple chevron pattern with my own colour choices.

Suggest me a hobby?
grey12 · 08/02/2021 09:36

@hennybeans Shock wow!!! That looks beautiful!
