Feeling very sad about this, even though he was 91. The Sound of Music is one of my favourite films and reduces me to a snivelling wreck every time I see it. RIP, Mr Plummer, and thanks for everything. You were great in Knives Out recently.

That recording of him singing sounds like him as an old man?

TheOtherMaryBerry · 06/02/2021 09:39

Almost all of the old musicals had dubbed singing, it's very normal.

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 06/02/2021 09:41

Debbie Reynolds was dubbed in SITR but didn't realise it apparently.

Gorgeous in The sound of music.
I can thoroughly recommend a film called 'Remember' in which he stars.

@Toddlerteaplease eh??

ofwarren · 06/02/2021 12:45

@spanishfly
Captain Von Trapp was a real person en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georg_von_Trapp

@ofwarren um, I know that! I was quite clearly not referring to him, though, but to CP's portrayal of him 🤯

DioneTheDiabolist · 06/02/2021 13:02

As much as I love The Sound of Music, my favourite Christpher Plummer movies were Murder by Decree and The Scarlet and the Black.

He was a great actor. RIP.Flowers

Don’t worry - it was perfectly clear! Grin

I love that someone is coming on to say that CP and Georg are different people, and that Georg Von Trapp was a real person - like everyone doesn’t already know that!

Thank you 🥰
I honestly despair sometimes at MN. I feel like some posters go out their way to be obtuse

@LyingWitchInTheWardrobe

I used to love the Sound of Music as a kid too. My family on my Mum's side is Austrian. They don't like the film at all. Grin

CP's daughter - Amanda - was excellent in 'The Prophecy', she's underrated I think, has her dad's talent.

Why did your Austrian family hate it?

Genuinely curious!

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 07/02/2021 10:04

Miljea, I'm not entirely sure but I suspect it was bandwagon-jumping (which they do a lot of). Apparently, the people from Salzburg (which SOM was filmed) were unhappy about the filming, the portrayal, everything. That is the reason why my family-over-there don't like it.

I do, that film evokes so much of my childhood for me. I got very much told off in a train station waiting room for replicating the Liesl dancing on and off the benches. I'd like to do it now in tribute to Christopher Plummer just because I want to do it again. Grin
