Those beds where the TV magically appears as if from nowhere...

Who has one? Are they good? Should I get one?

Currently have a wooden frame which is good because of our cats and their bloody claws, but nothing appears from it and I just want to watch trash TV in bed on a Saturday morning.

@JorisBonson

This could be me! With a bottle of wine and what could be a pavlova??
And a box of tissues. Grin

We have one.... it was husband's idea. He never watches it. It was food for a bit when the kids used to wake up early and we wanted to have a lie-in, they were quiet a bit longer. It makes the bed massive because of the extra length. The cats are making good use of the leather though so we might get rid of it soon. 😁

We've had one a few time when we've stayed in hotels etc. I don't like them - I think the tv is too low to comfortably lounge in the bed and watch so I wouldn't get one.

We've just moved and are putting a bracket that can swivel on the wall in our bedroom and mounting a tv to that - pure laziness, it means I won't even need to sit up to watch Grin

We have one and I don't like it, I prefer our old set up of TV on top of the chest of drawers!

The TV is too low so your feet block half the TV so you have to lie weird so that doesn't happen and if DP is watching TV whilst I am asleep apparently my arse covers his TV view unless he sits up so I wouldn't waste my money again!

Have you heard of iPads OP? Work just as well and you can move it bed, desk, kitchen, bathroom

Sparklingbrook · 05/02/2021 14:22

Ipads are ok, but they don't really replace watching stuff on a huge telly if that's what you like.

Yes, I haven't been living under a rock for the past decade!

Exactly!

(And drink wine and eat a cake like that lady).

I like to hang my feet off the bottom of the bed

@starbrightstarlight8888
Hang on, people dangle their feet over the edge of their beds??? Are you mad??? What about the creatures under the bed that grab your feet?

disclaimer this was a childhood fear of mine that has never gone away. There's no feet dangling in this house. Nope.

JorisBonson · 05/02/2021 16:04

Yes @MacDuffsMuff! Feet must stay under covers at all times lest they are eaten?

Yes you needs hands free for wine and snacks @JorisBonson. Is it cake she has? I’ve zoomed in but can’t tell.

MacDuffsMuff · 05/02/2021 16:11

@JorisBonson exactly! Anything else is madness.

Murinae · 05/02/2021 16:31

We have ours sat on a chest of drawers. Think it's a 32 inch one so not massive but big enough to watch in bed. I need the end of the bed to hang my feet out so would be a no from me too.

midnightstar66 · 05/02/2021 22:22

Gosh you people are all WILD! Feet off the end of the bed, what about the monsters? I had an ex who had one and it was pretty cool. Had never thought about what happened if/when it breaks though. Never had the problem with not being able to see over my feet. I don't lie flat when watching tv and it's raised on a foot board way higher than a mattress. You'd have to have really big feet for it to be an issue I feel! Check the length though as if your room is tight it may not for as will be a bit longer than a regular bed

OPTIMUMMY · 05/02/2021 22:29

I love ours. Our bedroom is an awkward space so it works really well for us. It comes up a decent height so no issues with feet or duvets blocking the view. Its neat and tidy, no wires or anything around and its not gathering dust by being up all the time.

oobedobe · 05/02/2021 22:33

We just got one of these easel stands to put a 40" tv on. I love it as it means we can watch TV in bed (new thrill as we've never had one in there before!) but also the TV can be easily moved to another room or put away if we are not using it. I didn't want a permanent mount and our dresser is too far away.

ineedtogooutlater · 06/02/2021 01:11

How TALL are all of you that your feet can get to the end of the bed?!

RightOnTheEdge · 06/02/2021 01:21

ineedtogooutlater that's what I was thinking!
My feet don't reach anywhere near the end of the bed. I have got very short legs though.

chipsandgin · 06/02/2021 01:39

My feet hang off all beds & I’m ‘only’ 6’ (which is tall for a woman, but not that tall!). My 6’5” 17 year old hangs a few inches off any bed. I hate staying anywhere where there is a ‘high bed end’ & where I have to end up uncomfortable from being curled up all night or alternatively have my feet in pain from pushing in to a bed end. So for me a ‘bed end TV’ would be infuriating!

Can you not have a TV on a different piece of furniture which isn’t the bed? Or if you and your partner are shorter & only you two are planning on using the bed then crack on, why not!

safariboot · 06/02/2021 03:08

I'm perfectly happy with just getting a small TV and putting on the drawers/bedside table/whatever. I don't have a TV in the bedroom at the moment but I used to.

This was my concern with them So think we will just wall mount the bedroom tv in new house
WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 06/02/2021 03:40

I always think they'd feel claustrophobic. I like to hang my feet off the bottom of the bed and don't think you could do that with those. I'd feel too close to the TV too. I don't sir that close to my TV in the living room so wouldn't want to do it in bed.

Perfect for if Piers Morgan comes on TV, though but could end up costing you a fortune in new TV sets.

I presume the mechanism is effectively just a rising shelf inside the bed and an electrical connection - and that, when the TV breaks/wears out/you fancy a better one, you can easily swap it for a new one? Not something intrinsic to the design of the bed as far as the actual TV itself goes? I imagine it's not very good for the telly components, getting shaken around and jarred, though, if you're, ahem, very active whilst in bed.

Alternatively, why not just move your bed down to your living room? Grin

Yes, this sounds a very likely issue with such a set-up. However, OP wants a TV at the end of the bed that can be set at multiple levels - from high up for a good clear view down to low down, below the line of the end of the bed. This could be stylishly and manually achieved at no extra cost by simply employing.... the ironing board Grin
