Fantasy House

I mean mainly @InsideOfEmptiness I wanted you to know you could move in, but what would people's fantasy house look like?

Mine would have an Octagonal library with a secret passage, a large laundry room with a large washing machine, the kitchen would have a double sink with food disposal, integrated coffee maker and sparkling water tap

You?

Mine has glass doors (French windows or bifold or whatever, but must be attractive) along most of the back ground floor, opening onto a long terrace with a beautiful garden beyond - not too big though - and my bedroom, also facing the back garden, has a little balcony that I can step out onto first thing on a lovely morning.

There’s some lovely ideas here.

Mine would have a heated outdoor swimming pool. My library would have a day bed and a big chair with views of my river.

I love a bedroom balcony.

DH wants a walled garden, so he can have that.

And a sauna and shower outdoors.

InsideOfEmptiness · 02/02/2021 07:31

Ooh, that all sounds lovely, @MinnieMountain.

I'm still mulling mine over. It'd be facing right on to the beach, and the shower in my en suite would have a full glass wall looking out on to it.

Then a big garden round the back, with lots of big old trees, which I would cover in warm white fairy lights (I know they're disliked greatly on MN, but I love the twinkling). And wild flowers everywhere.

Overlooking an estuary or river gully or beach. Big lawn with a huge handmade table under a wooden Pergola with grapes growing up it (or wisteria- I’m not fussy). Bit of a lost area at the back for kids to ‘make dens’ in. Some visiting deer (or kangaroos.) And a huge hammock.

A big old house that’s somehow also easy to clean Wink. Those hated lounge chairs that flick to laying back. A big kitchen with an old sofa covered in rescue dogs. A hidden room behind a bookcase to hide in (with a daybed and wine fridge/chocolate & cheese mini bar).

Plus stables, grazing and at least a 20:40 with some jumps. It looks like I want to be outside a lot!

Mrsmummy90 · 02/02/2021 08:18

Dh and I talk about our dream house A LOT!
It would have a really long driveway and hidden behind trees so you couldn't see it from the road.
There'd be a huge entrance hall with curved stairs either side. Big playroom with built in soft play, also a library behind a secret door, a games room with old arcade machines and a big garden with a treehouse for the kids.

Silkiechickscat · 02/02/2021 08:39

Yes I'ld also like a river / lake / sea and to be able to canoe /kayak out of my cottage but one that never floods and is warm enough all year and no insects. And I'll have a little island in the middle of the river / lake /sea.

SleepingStandingUp · 02/02/2021 09:12

We could probably just combine the bookcases by subject.

I love cats. DH won't let me have one. DS is desperate for three. He wants a white one, I want a grey one, we'd probably compromise on a ginger one. I do have three kids too, hence the large playroom

Get out my head. I'm desperate to live by the sea, I love in a repeatedly landlocked county with lots of canals 😒 Tree house obv in one of those trees I tried to convince DH to let our (tiny, inner estate) back garden go full wildflower but he wouldn't have it 😯

My DH didn't want a cat, now the two of them are together 24/7 and totally in love.

My dream house would be perched on top of a cliff looking out to a really rough bit of sea, with a turret and a widows walk at the top. Inside it would have a huge modern kitchen and a utility room, and a huge dining table. It would have at least 4 bedrooms and a study for my husband to wfh without cluttering up my spare room. There would be space for a gym in one of those garden rooms, with bifold doors looking out over a lawn flat and large enough to run laps of. The master bedroom would have 2 ensuites and 2 walk in wardrobes. The cleaner would come 3 times a week so my house was always sparkling and looking amazing when anyone dropped by, and the guest rooms would always be ready for guests to stay over on a whim. The personal trainer would also come 3 times a week so I looked as amazing as my house, and the sun would always be shining unless I was in a bad mood in which case it would be stormy for me to watch the sea

SleepingStandingUp · 02/02/2021 09:38

@muddledmidget you Def need some stormy nights living there to see the lightning storms out at seam. Can I come for dinner one of those nights so I can storm watch?

I love the idea of your house, but I need to be closer to the water

Definitely a walled garden - one big enough to set up my own flower farm.

Well I can dream at least.
