Help me plan a trip to London

Hi folks,

Its my partners 40th birthday next month. Obviously the big party he was going to have is not going to happen. I've got him some bits and bobs but I really want to put an itinerary of a lovely weekend or midweek break away when we can go - so I'd present it as a rough itinerary but with no dates on it and nothing booked yet!

It doesn't have to be London if anyone has any better suggestions.

I have a budget of about £150 Not including hotel, but does include food. Would like to find some slightly unusual fun things to do. He's an incredibly clever man, musician, plays rugby, loves sci-fi, generally interested in stuff, we both love singing and have massively missed karaoke during lockdown. We do have quite a few friends in and around London, so could include suggestions for things for us during the day and something for a group in the evening. We are both teachers so could be something we do midweek in a school holiday rather than has to be fixed at the weekend.

So ..... any ideas or recommendations?

Abeno is right near the British museum and is fab - Japanese pancakes cooked on the table right in front of you. Delicious and a real experience.

If he's into Rugby, you could visit the museum of rugby at Twickenham rugby ground.

There are so many amazing ideas here thank you everyone. I think I'll spend some time looking at them and put something together. I could afford to spend more, but I don't really want to, London is amazing to do on the cheap, and there are so many ideas here that I've never heard of or had but forgotten about, that I could probably get a week out of it!!! Once I put the itinerary together, I'll let you know what I decide. I'm loving the idea of Greenwich though, that was my old stomping ground for a year and I haven't been back there for 20 years!

I've just looked up the Good Hotel, the floating prison one, it looks amazing!!!! I think that settles where we will stay!

Good Hotel looks great but it's a long way out, though not so far if you are hanging out mainly in Greenwich and the East End, I suppose. But if you want to be central, loads of the chains are doing good advance booking deals right now. Travelodge Cov Garden for £40pppn.

@Farcry66 glad I could help. I used to live in the apartments next to it and my parents used to use it when they visited. It’s a good location for doing things in east and central London. Let me know if you have any questions.
