Has anyone done this? Would you recommend it? Obviously I couldn't do it until after Covid, but how much did you pay? And where did you get it done/would you recommend getting it done? Any help would be appreciated.

I had mine done at Moorfields about 20 years ago. I'm starting to need reading glasses now in my late 40s, but they always said that would happen. I didn't mind about reading - it was things like whitewater rafting that I wanted it done for (not that I'd ever have the nerve to do that again, but I wouldn't have done it at all if I had still needed glasses - didn't get on with contacts.)

You need to look into it, as it's not suitable for everyone, but it is fine for most eyes and prescriptions. I was also aware of possible side effects - I wanted to be sure of the risk I was taking.

There is a correlation between surgeons' experience and the incidence of side-effects, which is partly why I went to Moorfields, where they are qualified surgeons, not just opticians with an added qualification. I wanted them to be able to deal with things going wrong as well as a successful op, not that I needed any problems dealing with in the end, which is the best outcome.

I paid upfront because I had the money back then.

I got mine done in 2006 - best decision ever! They're still great 15 years later. All I'd say is visit a few clinics to find one that you feel happy and comfortable with. The first clinic I went to was very pushy and trying to sell the product. The second was far better, no pressure, no sales pitch and they did a great job.

I had mine done through Optical Express just over 15 years ago. Cost approx 3K & it corrected a slight astigmatism in one of my eyes. The only issue I've experienced is dry eyes if working in an air conditioned office. For this I use hyprolomose eye drops. There's only been a very slight deterioration in the 15 years but I have pairs of glasses for night driving due to the glare I was experiencing driving on a very badly lit A1 late at night. My optician advised me to get the glasses as it would help to prevent any further strain and deterioration & at the time my employer refunded the full cost of the glasses through their health care scheme.
All in though the surgery has paid for itself as prior to the surgery a pair of glasses was costing me approx 300.00 a time but I am aware that my eyesight will deteriorate due to the ageing process.
If if it helps then I know of at least five people who have had laser surgery & not one has experienced any significant issues.

Optical express are quoting £595 per eye on their website, but no one on here has paid under 3K. Is that figure just to lure clients in? DS is looking to have it done.

I had laser eye surgery 18 years ago with ultralase in Finchley. It was £795 for both eyes and I have had 20/20 vision ever since.

Had my eyes done in 2008 at a place on Tottenham Court Road but I don’t think the company exists any more. Was a miracle! My eyesight was -10 so pretty bad. I am now mid 40s and wear glasses to use the computer in the last few years. Apart from that no need for glasses.

The thing about laser eye surgery that struck me, and the reason I’ve never had it done, is when I went for a consult none of the drs or staff at the clinic had had it done.

When I realised that I decided contacts weren’t that bad.

DS is having a consultation at Optical Express on Monday. We cannot afford 3k so it will be interesting if the £595 price exists.

I presume they will try and sell us finance!
