I remember this name being used in my childhood. Yesterday I saw it written again but just used as a nickname. But who the hell is she and in what context is her name normally used? Google wasn't much help.

My lovely lovely granny was called Granny Gristle! And my kids call my mum granny gristle too. In our family is an affectionate term. (Im 49 , English and had a 70s childhood)

But we are still no nearer to finding out who she was!

We could always switch to wondering who Piffy was and why they were sitting on a rock bun..........?

Wonder if Gristle/Grizzle is from the witch’s familiar, Grizzle Greediguts?

Who was she? And when?

And who is Piffy? That's gone totally over my head.

Piffy? We’d be told to stop hanging around like Piffy on a rock bun i.e uselessly and aimlessly.

Grizzle Greedigut appears in this old illustration

What about a 'sleepy sootikins'?
Look at that or just 'sootikin'.
