Heating temperature

Just wondering what temperature you set your heating to in the winter? My DH doesn’t feel the cold so thinks 19 degrees C is ok. They rest of the family think the house is cold. We aren’t waltzing round in T-shirts either, I wear wool jumpers and a vest top most days.Just wondering if I’m being pathetic

20

schmockdown · 17/01/2021 21:30

We don't have a thermostat, it's low middle or boiling. Mostly have it on the middle.

Purplecatshopaholic · 17/01/2021 21:31

24 during the day. About 20 at night - maybe lower/off in summer if warm enough. Refuse to be cold!

fucknuckle · 17/01/2021 21:31

17.5 if i’m feeling really caution-to-the-wind. mostly 16.5 or 17, and it goes off at 6. i can’t sleep with the heating on and by morning it’s 14 in here. the joys of single-glazed windows. i have insulating film and 2 sets of blinds but it’s a losing battle really.

i’m disabled and low income with a key meter and electric heating. i have arthritis so low temps don’t help but i don’t have much choice. lots of layers and warm socks help, and i have a heated throw on the couch.

i did just qualify for the Warm Home Discount and will be heading to the Post Office tomorrow to get the £140 credit on my key. i had it last year, kept the heating on too much and burned through it in just over a month. i’m with bulb now so general cost has been way less and i’m hoping to make the free heating last longer this year!

(and my knock-off chinese oodie that i bought myself for christmas helps immensely)

Homebirthvirgin · 17/01/2021 21:36

My dp had it set at 11. Persuaded him to turn it up as I'm pregnant 😂 He's not tight or anything, just doesn't feel the cold and hates being hot.
Now we have it on 16.5 and I'm actually fine with it. Jumpers and hot water bottles, of course. We've lived together 8 years and I had no idea this wasn't normal until recently 😂

fish88 · 17/01/2021 21:36

Mine is set for 19c during the day, 16c overnight. I am nesh and I'm alway sat under a blanket even in summer but the rest of the family are warm with this temp

Gilead · 17/01/2021 21:38

18 but goes off at seven.

Notasyoungasiwas · 17/01/2021 21:38

Between 22 and 23 then off at night

Ideasplease322 · 17/01/2021 21:39

19 during the day - 15 at night.

Anything over 19 is uncomfortable, anything below 15 and the cat complains loudly😂

nomoreafool · 17/01/2021 21:39

Mine fluctuates during the day between 19 and 21 depending on if the doors have been left open a lot Hmm

I turn it down to 18.5 at night as I hate hot bedrooms and if it's chilly in the evening I've got snuggly sofa hooded blankets and dressing gowns.

maddiemookins16mum · 17/01/2021 21:45

Rarely over 19.5c.

SoCrimeaRiver · 17/01/2021 21:48

17 degrees here. DH would have it at 16 but I refuse. Generally wear 3 layers as the house isn't hot but it's manageable and we couldn't afford higher bills.

Svalberg · 17/01/2021 21:50

The value on your sensor/stat is immaterial, it's the position it's put that matters

Ideasplease322 · 17/01/2021 21:56

I am dreading the gas bill this winter - I am usually out at work from 7am to after 7pm. Heating now on 12 hours a day when it used to be two😩

dementedpixie · 17/01/2021 22:03

We've used a lot of gas in the last month - about £80/90. Its definitely gone up over the last few months

3JsMa · 17/01/2021 22:17

19/20 degrees.
It feels quite warm but I do wear 3 layers and 2 pairs of socks as I'm always cold due to thyroid issues.
DCs seem to be warm and constantly taking clothes off, my 19 yo walking around with no t-shirt.
Wish I could put it higher but worried about bills.

Glera · 17/01/2021 22:43
  1. Nothing worse than a hot house! Bedroom has to be a lot cooler. Hate visiting the inlaws, we always take shorts, even in the winter.
CrystalMaisie · 17/01/2021 22:51

Thermostat in a chilly hallway is set to 22.5, all the rads have thermostats on them and they are on max downstairs and 4/5 in bedrooms.

nocoolnamesleft · 17/01/2021 23:05

19, and I'm sitting here in a T shirt.

MrsSugar · 17/01/2021 23:11

19/20 ... highest I’ve had it is 22 but that’s only if it’s been extremely cold outside or the heatings been off a while like if we were away or at work

middleager · 17/01/2021 23:14

18 in the day, 19 of an evening.

middleager · 17/01/2021 23:16

When people say night, does this mean you sleep with the heating on all night??

dementedpixie · 17/01/2021 23:23

Mine is off overnight

FfsDoE · 17/01/2021 23:56

15 in the day, 14 at night
