Growth after periods starting

DD, 11, has started her periods but is still only 6.5 stone and barely 5’ tall.
DH and I are average and tall. I’m wondering if anyone has had a daughter grow a reasonable amount after starting? I’m wondering if her starting is a bit ‘wrong’ and we should see the GP in case growth hormones are appropriate. I’m sure that’s not the case but it would be awful if we miss this window to do something about it. She feels self conscious about her height as it is and this will only get worse as everyone else carries on growing.

I have read that height growth in girls tends to stop within 2 years of starting their period.

My DD started at 11, at which time she was a little under 5ft. She is now 15 and 5ft and half an inch! I don’t think she is still growing. She was never going to be an Amazon- I am 5ft 3- and her dad is 5ft 8. She was somewhere between the 2nd and 9th centiles for weight and height from birth and has maintained that same line all the way along.

I did originally think she might outgrow me just a little, but I don’t think that’ll happen now. She was a bit peeved about it for a while; especially when her 11 year-old brother outgrew her 😂 But she’s made her peace with it now and says she likes being little.

I’m not sure a doctor would be willing to intervene in what is actually a normal (if below average) height.

Given that your DD has parents of average and tall height, she might reasonably be expected to grow quite a lot over the next couple of years. I would expect her to gain weight too. At the time my DD started her period, she was very slight but just beginning to get a more womanly shape. Now that she’s a few years in, it’s more noticeable and a big part of that is just an increase in fat in the pertinent areas. She is a normal weight in proportion to her petite stature.

My DD started in Year 6 aged 11. She is now 13 and has grown a little more since but not substantially. She's about 5'1,5'2 and a fairly small frame (narrow shoulders etc). I can't see her being some sort of giantess now. She'll be on the petite side of normal. There are some girls in her class who literally look about 9 or 10 if that and are teeny and presumably have not started their periods.

Mine started age 9. I'm 5ft 10! Think I was around 5ft 7 age 12

Is your DH the average height one? How tall is he?

DazedandConcerned · 16/01/2021 11:47

Never lose hope Wink

I’m 5ft 8. I was 4ft 11 when I started secondary school.
I started my periods at 13 and I think reached my full adult height at 17 or 18.

I think dd has stopped growing. She started her periods at 11. 13 now. Shes grown about 3 inches since. She is 5ft 10 though.
