Anyone take Sertraline

I was wondering if anyone on here takes sertraline
I am starting on it tomorrow for anxiety and low mood and I’m worrying that it’s going to change my personality or make me feel worse. Does anyone take it long term and find that it’s ok?

It takes a few weeks for it to have any real effect. I didn’t feel ‘better’ as such, just realised one day I wasn’t ruminating constantly

50mg for 5 weeks, first two weeks hard, third week great, really bad forth week and now great. So glad I pursuveered. Feel like me again 😊

I've been on it 9 years and wouldn't want to come off. I'm still me but a version that isn't torturing herself with anxiety over everything I say or do. When i started the side effects wernt great - massive insomnia then a weird euphoria but it settled within a week or two. I'm never going to be a glass half full type of person but I'm not in disaster mode when something goes wrong.

I took it for a few years. Started on 50mg and got up to 200mg when I was at my most unwell. I found it absolutely brilliant and I didn’t really have any side effects (in contrast to Citalopram which I had been on previously and on which I had I had a lot of side effects for the first few weeks).

The main issue with Sertraline for me is that I have almost zero sex drive- but that might just me/my hormones/age. I am now withdrawing from them so will find out fairly soon!

How are you getting on @Ihearditthroughthegrapevine? 2 more days down. Hope you still taking them and getting through it.

Ihearditthroughthegrapevine · 18/01/2021 18:29

Thank you @WishingHopingThinkingPraying I've been feeling sleepy but I think a bit less anxious which is good.

I took it for a while to get me out of a hole. It really helped and I felt calm within days.
I came off it because it stopped me from wanting sex and being able to orgasm or cry.
But all in a it was a good thing.

I have started sertalie four weeks ago but stopped for 4 days back on it now been 7 days my question is will it be classed as starting from the beginning again

100problems · 19/12/2021 16:06

Hello. I've had it for a year.

It took a couple of weeks but I felt lighter, I started to stand up straighter and slept easier.

If I forget to take it it lets me know quite quickly. I don't feel different personality wise (worried I'd be a emotionless zombie).

100problems · 19/12/2021 16:08

Ooops Zombie thread and there's me going on about not being one Grin

JanisMoplin · 19/12/2021 16:23

Have you all found it has affected your periods?

pointythings · 19/12/2021 16:54

DD2 takes it - 100mg daily and it has transformed her life. Back in August she was feeling suicidal and lower than ever as well as struggling with anxiety. I don't know how she got the A level grades she needed to get into her first choice uni but somehow she did. She started Sertraline late August and it was tough - lots of side effects, especially nausea - but here we are in December and she is back to her old sparkling self, crushing it academically in her course, settled into a lovely group of friends and independent life a long way from home. No more side effects either. Sertraline doesn't work for everyone, but if you give it time and it's for you, it can be amazing.

ohsuzannah · 19/12/2021 17:25

Yes, I take it. It's made a huge difference to my mood. The only side effect I get is chronic reflux, so I make sure I eat first. I take 50mg

Footle · 20/12/2021 07:24

You must take it with a lot of water every time. Once I took it with just the mouthful that was left in the glass , and had appalling heartburn - nearly called an ambulance.

follygirl · 20/12/2021 08:52

My husband has been taking Sertraline for 8 years now. He's on 50mg dose.
It's definitely helped his anxiety and he has no plans to stop using it. Can't remember what side effects he had as it was so long ago.

cookiemonster2468 · 20/12/2021 08:57

That is a low dose that you are on, so you should be fine. You might have some side effects for the first couple of weeks but they should settle down and then you will feel the benefits. These medications do help if you stick with them.

Fabann60 · 22/12/2021 13:30

Hi all
Can anyone tell me if you had tense muscles and a bit shaky I'm abit concerned but I'm hoping they pass
Thanks
