Soup Maker - worth getting or will it end up at the back of the cupboard?

I'm tempted by the idea of a soup maker - they sound temptingly easy, shove in your chopped veg, leave for 30 minutes et voila! delicious home made soup.

Are they really as easy as that? If you have one, do you use it regularly? Any recommendations for brands/models? I couldn't go to more than about £100, but would rather spend more on one that will last and do the job than buy a very cheap one that isn't user-friendly so won't get used.

All opinions gratefully received.

I made red lentil soup today, stock cube, red lentils and onion. I’ll get at least three lunches out of that.

I have a whole chicken so I can do chicken next. I might live dangerously and press chunky 😃

That sounds lovely, Fluffycloudland - I was thinking pulse recipes would be good in winter. I got two fairly large portions of chicken & veg this evening and there's a medium portion left which has gone in the fridge for tomorrow's lunch.

One of the many things that completely divides Mumsnet is the soupmaker!

I personally love mine and didn’t regularly make soup till I got it. I like that it just does it’s own thing once I’ve put it on but I’m also happy to agree you don’t need one and can use a pot and stick blender. That’s the same with lots of kitchen gadgets though - you could do it in another way instead of having the gadget.

I love my soup maker!

People who don't have one will tell you they're no better than a pan and a blender, but they are much better. They cut down the hands-on time and don't need babysitting (ie no stirring or watching the pot required). Chuck the ingredients in, switch on and off you go and do something else until it beeps.

I could use a stick blender and a pan but in reality, I didn't! I make a lot of soup now where I didn't before!
I really can't be making huge pans full of anything - it won't get eaten. So it is without doubt one of my most used appliances.

I use a Pressure Cooker for the soup.
I do a roasting tin full of onions , carmelise then batch freeze .

Roasted vegetable soup is delicious . I use a vegetable stock pot (Knorr) in water .
Stick blender (Asda bargain) jobs done

The thing with a soup maker is that it blends the ingredients during the cooking process multiple times.A few minutes in and then blends again twice (?) during the heating/cooking process. I think that makes the soup more delicious than blending once at the end

Succumbed and ordered the compact one

Yes, excited. Used a lakeland voucher money off and ordered some other bits in their sale

Soup can be easily made in a slow cooker.

Chuck everything in, I can leave it, even for soup that usually catches on the hob like lentil.
I am also not a fan of pureed soups- I like chunky, minestrone, cock a leekie, chicken and rice etc.

It arrived quickly and I'm making the vegetable soup
