Tourettes, fucking hell.

I have Tourette’s and at the moment I’m ticcing nearly constantly. I have coprolalia (swearing) and every tic under the sun.

I’m just sick and tired of it. I’ve had it since I was 6 and I’m 25 now. I wish I could just have a break.

Ahhhh, fucking hell. Why is it so fucking awful.

I wish it stopped at 18 like so many people believe. But nope. Gonna be stuck with this forever.

I can’t do anything about it.

Sorry just needed a moan.

Thanks @elephantoverthehill

CatRamsey hey. I feel you. I always got a separate room for exams cos I’m so loud. Which was better than being with everyone in a big hall, I had to do it for prelims and it was a disaster lol.

Move to Ireland as we swear in conversation a whole lot more than here in UK!😁 and it’s not meant rudely ir insulting, it’s just part of the vernacular.. we d love you 😍

Springersrock · 09/01/2021 20:51

DD’s access arrangements for her mocks were supposed to include having a scribe and being in a separate room.

She didn’t get the scribe - which meant her exam papers were just covered in dots as every time she tried to write she just stabbed the paper with her pen

She was put in a quiet room, but with another girl with tics so they just spent the whole time setting each other off

Where are you Op, I have two (adult) children with Tourettes, one with gross motor tics and one with minor tics and vocal tics. My ds found somewhere ( I think Sheffield) that was good at helping with control,

wombatsandaplant · 09/01/2021 21:47

springers god how awful, that can’t have been good for either kid.

gilead I’m in Scotland, there’s never anything near where I am unfortunately.

I've just seen you are in Scotland. Are you familiar with John Davidson? I know Scotland is a big place but just on the off chance you are near the Scottish Borders. I know he has set up group meetings etc but obviously wouldn't be able to just now.

wombatsandaplant · 09/01/2021 23:18

effinell yeah I’m familiar with John Davidson. I’m like 3 hours drive from the borders unfortunately. We do have a local group but obviously they aren’t running either. So much easier if Covid just never existed.

Are they not running Zoom groups? Our local one is (also Scotland).

Yohoheaveho · 10/01/2021 00:12

I'm so sorry Wombat🙏
I really hope you find something that gives you some relief 🙏

My boss had tourettes, he said some really offensive things out loud, the N word was the one he shouted most or 'tit'. The weird thing was, I actually stopped noticing it, like when you live with a beeping sound constantly and stop noticing it. I dont mean like i was polite about it, I mean it completely stopped registering in my mind.

Gilead · 10/01/2021 07:45

Bugger! I’ll find out from DS about the course and see if I can find anything similar in Scotland. 💐

SwanShaped · 10/01/2021 07:56

That sounds exhausting for you. Were the groups helpful when you attended?

wombatsandaplant · 10/01/2021 13:08

I haven’t noticed them run any online groups since October time so not too sure. I’m also not great at the online ones as I find it a bit awkward as I’m autistic too.

The groups are okay but find it pretty much all parents rather than people with Tourette’s. Which is understandable but mildly annoying lol. I take what I can get really. I only managed to go to one in person before everything shut down.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 10/01/2021 14:00

Yeah that's true it is all parents on the one I went to too.

I really really feel for you. I wish I had some wisdom.

Thanks
wombatsandaplant · 10/01/2021 21:00

Thanks. I’ve set up a adults only discord server so hopefully it works out.

On another note my tics just keep getting worse. I’ve had 4 tic attacks today. I’m fucking done in.

Shaniac · 10/01/2021 22:59

Hi op whats a discord server? I could put you in touch with my friend if you want? She also has no one to really talk to about her tourettes

SwanShaped · 11/01/2021 08:56

Yeah I can see how it would be different if it was mainly parents there. Do you use fb? I’m a parent of a child with a disability and on some useful groups. There is also a ‘strictly adults only’ fb group for people with that disability. They won’t let parents use it. Which I think is a great idea.

SnappedAndFartedInMaui · 11/01/2021 09:15

I have two friends with tourettes, one has mild facial twitches and the other one has severe swearing. It is horrible for her and churches she has attended have told her she is demon posessed. It is heart breaking to see the way she has been treated and how hard her life is.

wombatsandaplant · 11/01/2021 11:54

shaniac a discord server is like what chat rooms used to be, like you can join and there’s different channels for different things. And the server is based on one topic for example a video game or tourettes or something.

Jesus, that's disturbingly un-Christian of them! Angry
